#6 Tips to Choose the Perfect Kitchen Tile

The kitchen is the one room in the house that can have several different types of tiles, in different applications, and they all will enhance your kitchen beautifully.  When choosing kitchen tile for your home consider where it is going to go first.  Glossy tile that goes on a wall will not be the same as flooring tile. Flooring tile has to be safe to walk on, and a glossy floor kitchen tile could be unsafe under foot.  Here are tips for choosing the right application and type of tile for your kitchen.

1.) Determine where the tile will be installed:

Before you select a material you will need to decide what surface the tile will be applied.  Tile can be placed as a backsplash behind a stove, or on the wall to the underside of the upper cabinets. Tile is a popular countertop material, and can also be used on the kitchen floor.

2.) Decipher the difference between ‘tiles’: ... Read more »

#6 Secrets to Finding Cheap Kitchen Cabinets

By Lee Wallender. Home Renovations Expert

As the ultimate know-nothing beginner, Lee Wallender's first experience with home renovation was remodeling a 100 year-old house.

How To Contact Me

Unfortunately, it has come to the point where I cannot answer readers' individual questions about home remodeling. The backlog has become so great that I feel I cannot adequately serve readers. If you have emergency questions, write to the address below and I will try to answer.

What s going on here?  It seems like no matter how hard you look, kitchen cabinets are over-the-top expensive. One reason for this is that for so long the process of buying and installing cabinets has been controlled by manufacturers, retailers, and installers. The presumption has been that homeowners will want the full service kitchen cabinet installation, which of course does a full service job on your bank account, too.

#8 Great Kitchen Cabinet Color Palettes

Make your kitchen uniquely yours with painted cabinetry. Here's how (and what) to paint them

Save

How to Paint Kitchen Cabinets

1. Prep. Remove cabinet doors and drawers and give everything a good cleaning with TSP (TriSodium Phosphate), or a TSP alternative, to remove any grease or dirt.

4. Prime. You are now ready to apply primer. If you are going to be painting your cabinets a deep, intense shade, ask your paint retailer to add pigment to the primer to get better color coverage with the final coat.

5. Sand, prime and sand again. If you want a super-smooth finish on your cabinets, or to ensure a long-lasting, durable finish, you may want to sand and prime and then sand one last time, using fine-grit sandpaper.

6. Clean. Make sure all surfaces to be painted are completely free of dust and grit.

7. Spray or brush on the paint. If y ... Read more »

#6 Kitchen Colour Schemes That Will Stand the Test of Time

A new kitchen is a pretty long-term fixture in your home. Ensure that yours won't date by choosing a timeless colour scheme

Save

1. Black, white and grey

The contrast of black and white has been a much loved colour combination both in fashion and interiors for many many years. Although the contrast of black and white is strong, it’s still a very easy scheme to live with. Because there is no real colour as such, a black and white scheme can be brightened with various coloured accessories that can easily be changed as you tire of them.

To create maximum impact with this colour scheme, look for the brightest, most crisp white and the purest black. Soften the harsh contrast of black and white by introducing some grey tones.

Black is a strong colour that creates big impact, so if you have a small space, use it sparingly. Consider a glossy finish for your black surfaces; this will ... Read more »

#6 Ways To Rethink The Kitchen Island

The hardworking kitchen island can be a very functional and beautiful centerpiece of a kitchen design. and it’s one of the most popular features of a modern kitchen. But it’s not the only way to go. In some spaces an island can feel more cumbersome than useful. If you are feeling the urge to break away from the island-centric kitchen, check out our bevy of inspiring ideas below.

Save space with an island and table in one. The innovative kitchen in this Sydney home features an island counter on one side, with built-in seating and a marble-topped, extendable table on the other end. 10 Types of Small Kitchen Islands on Wheels

A few years ago, my wife and I were looking for a new place. For months, nothing came up that was worth looking. Then, one day, a beautiful two-story home with a custom wood design was listed. Better yet, it was in our price range.

We immediately arranged to look at it.

I’ll never forget the first time I entered the main living space. It was big, open, has a vaulted ceiling and a kitchen island to die for. In fact, 90% of the working counterspace is the island. We took place immediately and love it to this day.

However, we’ve lived in places with kitchens with no island. Our solution in those kitchens was to buy a small kitchen island on wheels. It proved enormously useful in every kitchen… and we continue to use it to this day even though we have a large kitchen island. Now it’s used as a dining area side table, which is another terrific use for small, portable kitchen islands.

If you don’t have an island ... Read more »

#8 Ways to Work a Desk into the Kitchen

We're going to guess you spend a lot of time in your kitchen. It's probably the command center of your entire home or apartment — friends gather there when they come over for dinner, your kids probably do some homework at the kitchen table, and let's be honest, you probably bring your laptop in to check Facebook while you're waiting for those onions to caramelize.

The trick is to not make the desk feel like an afterthought in the kitchen, but instead fit it naturally into the design. Here are eight examples of desks in the kitchen that really work.

  • Bar Height - Paragon Kitchens: You don't need a lot of space for a desk in the kitchen. This small bar counter makes a great workspace.
  • School Desk - Robert Holgate Design: This small desk fits perfectly in the nook next to the refrigerator. And the colorful school chair adds a bit of charm.

#7 kitchen tools every home cook needs

And you thought your propane torch was just for metalworking.

There's more to your kitchen than knives and pans. Make sure you keep these other essentials on hand. (Photo: Helder Almeida /Shutterstock)

One of the best places to shop for practical stuff is the local hardware store for kitchen stuff.

So the next time you're on a cooking project and lack basic supplies, make a beeline to the nearest one rather than shopping online or driving to the mall. Small hardware stores often carry exactly what you need and an assortment of items that you wouldn't expect. The list of kitchen equipment is expansive, ranging from practical items, such as canning jars and twine to specialized tools like propane torches.

In between the jars and torches is kitchen gear that every cook should own, but these items are often overlooked until problems arise. Replacement lids, gloves for food preparation and wooden matches a ... Read more »

There was a time when granite seemed like the only go-to material for countertops. But recently we're seeing a shift as more materials are edging their way onto the radar of homeowners and designers. #10 Cheap, Renter-Friendly Improvements for Small Kitchens

    From the Archives: Greatest Hits

All the small space goodness from last month inspired me to make some tweaks and additions to make my small Brooklyn kitchen more serviceable and user-friendly (especially since I am its primary user). The changes are affordable, renter-friendly and, hopefully, helpful to some of you simmering and sautéing away in your own small kitchens.

    1. Over-the-Stove Cutting Board: small kitchens are a challenge not just for storing things but for actually cooking. To gain a bit more usable counter space I purchased this bamboo cutting board that fits across two burners. If you don't use your stove much you could leave it there most of them time. Or, of course, you can just bring it out when you need more surface area to work on. I used it for an easier quesadilla assembly line recently and it was a great improvement. If you're curious, the one I have is by Lipper Inter ... Read more »

The Best Kitchen Trash Can | The Sweethome

For less than $15, this touch-lid can comes with a spring-loaded top and an easy to clean, roomy plastic body. Not very solid if you have clumsy kids or pets who like to knock things over, though.

Going much cheaper, there is a touch-lid Hefty can for $14.47 we can see a place for if you generate less trash than average, don t have any kids or dogs ready to knock it over, and absolutely need something cheap but minimally functional.

And for very active spaces where trash goes out every day—or at least smelly stuff is rare and immediately tossed—the $120 simplehuman 50-L Slim Open Can looks nice and avoids the lid/step/close business entirely. Again, though, we must stress: this only works if you have a very particular kind of household: one that takes out trash daily or hardly ever throws out things that could smell. It s the best version of an open can, but an open can is not for everyone.

Vibrant Kitchen Canisters Sets Which Lift Even Tired Decor

Actually if I’m being totally truthful, none of this would have happened but for a friend asking which kitchen canisters sets would make a perfect wedding gift.

Having spent a week clearing kitchen cupboards and boosting trade at the hand-me-up, with breaks in between to pick and dry more tomatoes, one is entitled to a treat and shopping, well

Kitchen Scales - Equipment & Gear - Cooking For Engineers

A kitchen scale is an essential tool in every kitchen. Most American kitchens have a set of measuring cups, but don't have a kitchen scale. Even though kitchen scales aren't that common to the American kitchen, Amazon.com still has over 200 scales for sale ranging from $7 to over $300. Is this a gadget that only perfectionist chefs and constant bakers need? No, give a good scale a try and you'll find that it's a better and faster way to cook.

    Why Use a Kitchen Scale

The first and foremost reason is of course precision. Precision is how repeatable a measurement is. For example, if we measured a cup of all-purpose flour in a 1 cup (8 ounces) dry measuring cup, we expect the mass of the flour to be 125 grams. Assuming that the dry measuring cup is constructed to strict standards, the cup is accurate but not precise. Every time flour is measured, it is a bit more or a bit less than 125 g. How ... If your kitchen needs a lift but you’re not up for an all-out renovation, consider a countertop makeover.

If your kitchen needs a lift but you’re not up for an all-out renovation, consider a countertop makeover.

Easier than remodeling, new countertops can give your kitchen a much-needed change of face. Before committing to a material however, it’s important to know what each offers in terms of durability and ease of maintenance. For more tips, watch our video .

A countertop must be able to withstand constant use while maintaining its good looks; a material’s lifespan is dependent on its ability to support the task at hand. A basic checklist of qualities should include the following: durability, ease of cleaning, heat, stain and water resistance and visual appeal. No one countertop material is able to meet all of these requirements, so selection will mean some compromise.

    #9 Trends in Kitchen Backsplashes

A fast and fun way to refresh your kitchen is to update the backsplash. Backsplashes are like accessories for kitchens. They take that blank space between your counter and cabinets and add a flair of personality. It’s how you make your kitchen yours, and you can change it as often as you change your style. Here are nine trends in kitchen backsplashes to ensure your kitchen is as fashion forward as you are.

#10 Easy Pieces: Best Budget Kitchen Faucets: Remodelista

Quality counts when it comes to choosing the most in-demand fitting in the kitchen. For durability, look for faucets that are made of brass, and don't ignore what's under the hood. It's important that the innards have ceramic parts for long-lasting, dripless functioning.

Some tips to keep cost in check: Select a chrome finish (it's the most affordable), skip the sprayer option (you can live without it), and consider two-handled faucets—they're often less expensive than single-handled designs. Also pay attention to warranties both for your own protection and as an indicator of manufacturer quality.

Here, our pick of 10 faucets that combine affordability with quality.

#10 Favorites: Cutout Kitchen Cabinet Pulls: Remodelista

I dream of unadorned kitchen cabinets that are inexpensive to fabricate and easy to use. This is how I discovered the cutout drawer and cabinet pull.

As much as the next person, I do a lot of swooning over open shelving. Lisa K, Monterey CA

Kitchen remodeling is one of the best ways to increase the value of your home and make this common gathering place more functional, efficient and beautiful. Though kitchen remodeling can carry a large price tag, it is more useful to think about the new design as an investment rather than just a cost. The cost of remodeling your kitchen can vary according to a number of different factors. From the size of the kitchen to the complexity of the job and the particulars of your design choice, the cost of the kitchen remodeling project is an area that must be considered carefully. You will want to decide on a budget and stick with it when working with your kitchen remodeling contractor.

Building code stifles creativity and just plain doesn’t make sense. Isn’t that the truth?

It’s not. Building code relays the best practices for safety and is perfectly logical. For example, stair balusters have to be placed close enough together that a four-inch-in-diameter ball can’t go through. Does that number seem random? It’s actually because four inches is considered too narrow for the average infant’s head to fit through. Not having to butter your kid’s ears to get them out of the bannister is a good thing.

These types of solutions to everyday problems are used in kitchen code and design–and no other room has as many design considerations as a kitchen.

Not everyone has a cavernous kitchen. Many have the gas lines, vent hoods, supply water lines, 220 electric service, and sewer pipes jammed into spaces as small as 200 square feet. No ... Read more »

#10 Easy, Low-Budget Ways to Improve Any Kitchen (Even a Rental! )

    Rental Kitchen Solutions

I'm always so inspired by dream kitchens like this cottage kitchen in Maine or any one of these gorgeous, glamorous spaces. I appreciate the details, materials, the layout, all the finer things that make it special and swoon-worthy. But most of us probably don't cook in our dream kitchen. Instead, we deal with our kitchens' quirks and inconveniences on a daily basis.

    1. Add or change lighting.

If the lighting in your kitchen is dim, or you hate the overhead fixture, change it! Switching out an overhead light fixture is much easier than it sounds. It doesn't have to be super expensive, either. I bought a vintage light fixture for $20 on Etsy, but before that I was eyeing a few options at IKEA. Don't forget about under-cabinet lighting. That might be all you need to feel like you've seen the light, literally.

    2. Change drawer or shelf liners.

    #Reface or Replace Cabinets?

By Pete Goode (Page 1 of 7)

Mary Saunder disliked the cabinets in her kitchen from the moment she moved into her Bowie, Maryland, home. "They were metal, the color of bronze," Saunder says, "but my husband's motto was 'If it ain't broke don't fix it.'" When her husband passed away last February, Mary decided it was time to act. "I couldn't stand it any more," she says.

But rather than spend the $25,000 or $30,000 redoing the kitchen with new cabinets would have cost her, she settled on a simpler, cheaper and far less intrusive solution. Motivated by a newspaper ad for Sears' kitchen-cabinet-refacing service, she scheduled an appointment and signed up. After two visits to take measurements and show her the new finish and hardware options she could choose from, Sears moved in. Two days and 29 cabinets later, Mary's kitchen was transformed. "I'm 100 percent satisfied," she says. Total cost: $9,100.

#10 Kitchen Tools That Are Both Essential and Inexpensive

    Shopping Guides from the Kitchn

It's easy to swoon over beautiful yet pricey kitchen tools, like pretty colored stand mixers. Vitamix blenders, and Dutch ovens. But, when it comes to essential, can't-live-without kitchen tools, all of our favorites are totally inexpensive.

All of these tools are seriously useful, and come in handy on a daily basis. And, what makes them even better is that they don't cost hundreds of dollars, but tens of dollars — or in some case, just a few.

    1. A good vegetable peeler

After working with a horribly dull peeler for way too long, I spent $4 on a Kuhn Rikon Swiss peeler. It's small and lightweight, yet it's lasted years and I'm convinced there's nothing it can't handle.

    2. Tongs

Easily one of my most-used (and favorite) tools in the kitchen. Tongs come in handy for everything — prep, cooking, and even serving. I use them so much that I ... Read more »

Planning a kitchen? KBBC has the expertise you need

The first step to planning your kitchen is to find out how much floor space is available for you to work with. In order to do this, you need to take accurate measurements of the length and width of your kitchen, in millimetres. Then on the scaled grid paper, draw up the outline of the area. Also, jot down the position of any objects that may affect the way in which you lay out the kitchen, e.g. doors, windows, plug points, piping, boilers etc.

In order to help you plan the layout of your kitchen, we provide an Online Kitchen Planning Tool. You can move items about and play around until you come up with the right arrangement suitable for you.

Remember to allow a small space in between walls so that everything can fit in comfortably. It is important that you note down the height of any windows and ceilings, sloping ones in particular.

#10 Things to Do If You Don t Have a Range Hood or Vent

The absence of a range hood is the scourge of many a rental kitchen. With nothing to catch grease splatters and vent smoke, steam, and cooking smells out of the kitchen, renters often end up fighting sticky, filmy cabinets and an apartment that still smells like fish two days after cooking.

Some rental kitchens have non-venting recirculating fans installed under cabinets, which should capture grease and help with cooking smells. But many people (me included) find them ineffective and bordering on useless.

Feel the same way? Here's what you can do to help mitigate the effects of your range-less kitchen, with specific advice culled from our readers:

    1. Use a window fan.

If you're fortunate enough to have a window in your kitchen (or at least nearby), install a small window fan and run it on "exhaust" every time you cook. This will pull the air out, and while it may not do much for greas ... Read more »

Kitchen Sinks - Undermount Kohler Blanco Sink

Kitchen sinks have one simple purpose: to provide a place in the cooking area where hot and cold running water flows into a basin to wash dishes, pots and pans and prepare food. This one simple tool has evolved into so many thousands of different styles, colors and materials that it has become confusing to the average homeowner to know which basin to choose. This article discusses the installation types and materials of washbasins for the kitchen to make an informed choice.

    Installation Types

There are four popular installation types of basins for the eating area: apron, drop-in, self-rimming, and undermount.

Restaurant Review: Guy’s American Kitchen & Bar in Times Square - NYTimes.com

GUY FIERI, have you eaten at your new restaurant in Times Square? Have you pulled up one of the 500 seats at Guy’s American Kitchen & Bar and ordered a meal? Did you eat the food? Did it live up to your expectations?

Did panic grip your soul as you stared into the whirling hypno wheel of the menu, where adjectives and nouns spin in a crazy vortex? When you saw the burger described as “Guy’s Pat LaFrieda custom blend, all-natural Creekstone Farm Black Angus beef patty, LTOP (lettuce, tomato, onion + pickle), SMC (super-melty-cheese) and a slathering of Donkey Sauce on garlic-buttered brioche,” did your mind touch the void for a minute?

Did you notice that the menu was an unreliable predictor of what actually came to the table? Were the “bourbon butter crunch chips” missing from your Almond Joy cocktail, too? Was your deep-fried “boulder” of ice cream the size of a standard scoop?

    Choosing Outdoor Kitchen Cabinets

Tough Furnishings for the Outdoor Kitchen

If you have an outside kitchen but lack storage space, outdoor kitchen cabinets are your answer. Beyond just 'storage boxes' however, they can also define the style and look of your outdoor kitchen, just as indoor cabinets do for your indoor kitchen.

Outdoor kitchen cabinets come in a variety of materials and styles, so you're not limited as far choices go. They're also made to stand up to the elements so there's no need to be concerned about how they'll fare in the sun, rain or snow.

Convenience is a boon too. Being able to store everything you need right there in the outdoor kitchen is a lot easier than constantly having to run back to the "inside kitchen" for supplies.

So how do you go about choosing the right type and where can you get them? Read on to find out which style best suits your outdoor kitchen plans.

#Range Hoods & Vents: Find Range Hood and Kitchen Exhaust Fan Designs Online

What size range hood do I need?

Your new kitchen hood should be at least as wide as your stove top, but an additional three inches on each side is recommended. If you’re replacing yours, take note of the old model’s size before you go shopping. Sometimes you may not have much leeway thanks to a pre-determined opening in your cabinetry. If this is the case, simply measure the opening from left to right to determine what size will fit.

What’s the difference between a ducted and non-ducted kitchen hood?

The way your new extractor hood vents air is an important consideration. Here are the three most common methods of ventilation:

    • Ducted or vented: This method allows you to vent air outside of your house, which is your best option. Keep in mind the shorter your ducts, the more efficient your system will be. If your extractor hood is mounted to an interior wall or on an i ... Read more »

    Choosing Kitchen Faucets

Understand Your Options, Make Good Choices

Kitchen faucets are among the hardest working fixtures in your home. Along with the kitchen sink, the faucet gets used countless times per day and should be durable enough to provide years of dutiful service.

The right faucet can also add beauty and style to your kitchen but as a hard-working member, it needs "the right stuff" to ensure it provides trouble-free operation day after day.

“We both chose to have gingerbread pancakes (additional charge) - they are amazing!” in 3 reviews

Zoe s is absolutely adorable. I d heard about them in NJ Monthly, so we checked it out in April for breakfast, and then were just back again this week. So Good! Basic, delicious breakfast staples for reasonable prices. My husband and I both had the Fisherman s breakfast - 2 eggs, bacon, potatoes and 2 pancakes. I honestly couldn t  finish it all! We both chose to have gingerbread pancakes (additional charge) - they are amazing! Hearty and fluffy and wonderful! We asked for crispy bacon, and it was perfectly done, without being burned. Such a great little find, a few blocks off of the main drag in town. Super adorable, with so much vintage charm - funky tables and chairs, retro aprons hanging on the walls, and cool accessories like vintage glasses and a Coke machine.

#Reader Survey: Do You Use a Kitchen Timer?

For us, a timer is as indispensable to cooking as knives and measuring spoons. We use ours for everything from timing hard boiled eggs to the final rise of our bread dough.

Are you the same way, or do you tend to go by instinct?

We received the Polder timer pictured above as a present. It has count up and count down features, and the keypad makes it easy to input cooking times. Plus, it has magnet on the back so we can secure it where it's out of the way yet still handy.

However, we're just as likely to use our oven's timer, particularly for timing longer things like braises and roasts. Using both the oven time and our portable timer is convenient when we're cooking multiple things at once.

(Or there's always the Polder triple timer for the ultimate multi-tasker!)

We've also seen friends use the count down or alarm clock features on their cell phones to remind themselves of cooking times. M ... Read more »

#Refinish your Furniture and Kitchen Cabinets

Refinishing Kitchen Cabinets & Bathroom Cabinets with Restorz-it

    A Message from the Developer

Restorz-it Wood Finish has restored thousands of kitchens and bathrooms, saving people considerable time and money. The standard finish used on kitchen and bathroom cabinets generally is an inferior lacquer finish that breaks down with exposure to water. This will cause the finish to peel, crack, or discolor. Professionals will tell you that your only option is stripping and sanding. Restorz-it is ideal for covering this damage, while creating a quality, water-resistant finish that will protect your cabinets for years to come.

The cost of replacing or refacing kitchen cabinets is expensive (at least $10,000 replacement). Save yourself time and money and give our product a try before replacing, you will most likely be very satisfied.

#Remodeling 101: How Kitchen Edge Pulls Changed My Life: Remodelista

How do you possibly pick the perfect kitchen pull among endless options? In my case, my husband finally made me pull the trigger.

Six months ago, our remodeled kitchen was complete enough for us to start using it—minus any knobs or pulls. Things actually worked quite well without these details, but not without daily irritations: every time my husband tried to open a drawer, his fingers would get stuck, an especially bothersome hazard when emptying the dishwasher (I confess: a chore he tackles more often than I do). Even our five-year-old son developed his own opening technique, wrapping his little fingers around each drawer side. Our youngest, still a toddler, never cracked the code—and so our lack of hardware actually worked as a safety measure. Happy with the kitchen's streamlined look, I would have left things as is—if it weren't for one very annoyed husband. It was time to make a decision.

Organizing Your Kitchen Pantry Storage | Apartment Ratings

Your kitchen is a mess of clutter. six half-empty boxes of Frosted Flakes scattered across the counter, a rarely-used mixer hiding in the inaccessible cabinet over the fridge (you’re short, okay?!), a bag of almost-rotten lettuce on each shelf of your fridge (but none of them in the crisper where they belong), a jumble of frozen meals in the freezer, stacks of cans on the counter, dirty appliances on every open surface, and empty cupboards. Or maybe your cupboards are full, but you can’t find anything flour is resting beside cans of baked beans, tuna is hiding behind boxes of crackers, and your waffle maker is buried in a stack of half-empty bags of chips. Whatever your situation, you need to get your kitchen organized now. Here are some helpful tips to take your kitchen from “Oh no” to “Oh wow .” To do this, you’ll need to ask yourself some questi ... #Remodeling 101: The Mystery of Bamboo Floors Revealed: Remodelista

At a recent editorial meeting, Julie asked what we all thought of bamboo floors. As it turns out, none us knew much about the material as a flooring option, including me—despite having a bamboo floor in my own kitchen. Ten years ago, my architect husband and I decided to go with bamboo based on cost and convenience: back then bamboo flooring was relatively new to the US and UK markets and the easiest way to purchase it was through the vanguard of the Internet, making it more competitive than any other wood flooring we were considering.

Recently, we renovated our kitchen and changed everything but the floor. Because of its softness, the floor certainly has its shares of nicks and dents and I desperated wanted to change its color. Impossible to refinish, we compromised and kept it. For those considering installing bamboo flooring, I've boned up on the material and can offer the following advice—in hindsight.< ... Read more »

:: Просмотр темы - Вопрос про Kitchen Aid mixer....

    Kitchen Sink Faucets at FaucetDirect.com

Why don't we show the price?

Like many retailers, FaucetDirect.com can choose to set its own prices independently. And even though manufacturers require FaucetDirect.com and other retailers to display a product's "minimum advertised price" (or MAP), the retailer can choose to sell for less than that. But the price must be conveyed in other ways, and each individual manufacturer's MAP policy determines where the price can be seen.

To see the price for this product at FaucetDirect.com, you'll need to place it in your shopping cart, and maybe even proceed to final checkout. If you're not ready to buy the product, simply remove it from the cart.

FaucetDirect.com apologizes for any inconvenience. We'd just like to offer you the chance to save extra money while we adhere to manufacturers' MAP policies. FaucetDirect.com is also working to educate manufacturers on how their policies impact customers and their buying behavior. ... Read more »

#Remodeling kitchen Why expensive cabinets and not Kraftmaid? (flooring, how much, granite) - House -remodeling, decorating, construction, energy use, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, building, rooms - City-Data Forum

Remodeling kitchen Why expensive cabinets and not Kraftmaid?

Hope I got this in the correct forum. Can someone please explain to me WHY I should go for expensive cabinets and not Kraftmaid in our (new to us) house? We remodeled our cabin a couple years ago and I used Kraftmaid cabinets - love them and the many options available.

We bought a house and are planning a major remodel (house is for us for many years, not for resale). Not saying this to be braggy but to better explain my dilemma - the house is a very nice house in what is called a fancy neighborhood. When I tell people I plan to use Kraftmaid cabinets they look at me like I have 2 heads - I guess it is just expected that expensive cabinets would be used in that quality of house a ... Read more »

#Kitchen Wall Cladding - Easy to Install Wipe-over Panels

    Kitchen Wall Cladding

We have a range of cladding that is ideal for use in kitchens* providing a hygienic, wipe over surface that is easy to clean.

Any room in the house that experiences a lot of condensation can suffer adversely from mould problems. Modern double glazed homes and a lack of extraction means that condensation has nowhere to go and will settle on cold surfaces. Tile grout is usually the first place to show visible signs of attack, so an alternative wall covering can be used to try and circumvent this problem.

Kitchen wall cladding has no grout to turn mouldy so it is hygienic and very easy to install. Even though a kitchen might be quite large, a great deal of the surface area of the walls is taken up with cupboards, so the actual area that needs to be covered can be quite small. We would normally install the wall cladding after the kitchen units have been fitted to minimize the amoun ... Read more »

#Replace Drawer Glides In 5 Steps

New drawer glides can give a desk or cupboard drawer a whole new feel. When old drawer slides become broken, sticky or non-functional, replace the drawer slides for a whole new look.

    Step 1 Remove the Drawer

To remove the old slides, you ll need to remove the drawer from the box.

Pull the drawer carefully out as far as it will go. Lift the front of the box up at a 45 degree angle. If this is not successful at freeing the drawer, pull up on the back of the drawer.

If you still encounter difficulties freeing the drawer, look for drawer locks or swing latches that prohibit the drawer from coming all the way out of the box.

Often you can bypass these latches by pushing the drawer in slightly, then moving the latches to the side to release the slides.

    Step 2 Remove Old Slides

Take all hardware completely off of the old drawer. Watch for rollers or wheels o ... Read more »
