#Faith s Kitchen Renovation: The Confusing Journey of Buying Kitchen Appliances

Last we checked in with my kitchen renovation, we were wrestling IKEA cabinets  and installing them with (ahem) sex bolts. (See all the posts about my kitchen renovation so far here .) Now I'd like to take a step back and talk about a process that should  be sexy but is actually fraught with confusion, uncertainty, and a lack of resources: Buying kitchen appliances.

Read on to see how we navigated the overwhelming process of buying appliances, and to see what we picked out. I'll talk about how buying a range top can actually save you money, as well as our one amazing Craigslist find!

A note! Thank you to all of you who emailed asking WHERE THE HECK ARE THE REST OF YOUR RENOVATION POSTS. I'm so sorry it's taking me so long to get to the big reveal. My camera had an accident and is in the shop. I hope to get it back, and to finish off my photos and the r ... Read more »

Laminated Worktops - SimplifyDIY - DIY and Home Improvement Solutions
Introduction

Laminated surfaces are widely available under a variety of brand names, such as Formica, Duropal, Axiom and Prima.

Fundamentally all laminated worktops are constructed from a high-density particleboard core, onto which a sheet of paper carrying the pattern is heat-bonded using resin adhesives. This forms a waterproof laminate across the surface of the worktop that can create a finish ranging from matt, through satin to gloss.

To protect the particleboard from humidity a protective layer is almost always applied to the underside of the worktop.

A ‘drip seal’ is also applied about an inch from the ... Read more »

#Essential Kitchen Tools Checklist

Cooking is easier and faster with the right equipment. Stock your kitchen with these basics.

Your progress has been saved **You've changed this checklist.**

Remember to save your progress.

Spoons, Ladles, and More

Look for a large “bowl” that makes it easy to serve soups. Also, a bent handle at the top allows you to hook the ladle on the side of a pot without it falling in.

Select a style with nonslip handles and scalloped tips for a firm grip. Use for turning meats and tossing vegetables in a skillet.

An offset thin blade will allow you to get under delicate items like cookies and pancakes. A medium-length blade will prevent flipping or picking up foods at an awkward angle.

Should be sturdy enough to maneuver heavy doughs but flexible enough to get into jar corners. Silicone models are heat-resistant and can be used in pots.

Pick a sturdy spoon with a stainless steel handle that ... Read more »
