#Gel Kitchen Mats: Are They Worth It?

The WellnessMat in my own kitchen. I've found the polyurethane surface to be quite easy to clean; it wipes down nicely, and it doesn't let any water seep under the mat.

The answer, with some reservations, is yes .

First of all, let's look at this particular mat. WellnessMats are a brand of gel mats similar to GelPro and other gel mat makers. The idea of a gel mat is to make long periods of standing in the kitchen a little easier. They cushion hard floors and achy joints.

These mats are definitely more expensive than an off-the-shelf vinyl or fabric mat from the store. They are usually made from leather or high-quality vinyl, and are designed to be non-skid and quite heavy.

I've tested two different versions of these mats now: A leather mat from GelPro. and a polyurethane mat from WellnessMats. I like the WellnessMat marginally better, but mostly because it comes in a smooth ... Read more »

#Get Your Toddler In the Kitchen and Eating Healthier

Making your kitchen a welcoming place for your toddler can help your child form healthy views on food and nutrition. as well as gender roles (both mom and dad can cook!), and can reduce picky eating habits. Sounds like a win for everyone, right? Here are a few ideas to get you and your toddler started.

Hang out in the Kitchen

When I walk into my childhood home to visit my mom, the first place I go is the kitchen. My mom, husband, son and I have logged hours there, sitting, chatting and nibbling. The kitchen truly is the heart of your home, and it should feel like a safe and loving place for your whole family. If you are a gourmet cook, you might feel uneasy giving up some of your kitchen space to a very messy—and very loud—toddler. However, if you make a conscious effort to give up perfection, you can slowly start to help the kitchen feel like it belongs to everyone. Try to start spending more of your down time ... Read more »

Kitchen Cabinet Hardware Ideas | eHow

Replacing pull and knob handles on cabinets and drawers is one of the more popular ways to update an older kitchen. If your kitchen currently has knobs, consider changing to pull handles. Or change the shape of the knobs. Knobs and pulls come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Choose new hardware that fits your kitchen's current design. Modern handles tend to be sleek and simple; traditional pulls are more elaborate. For example, don't buy older knobs for a modern kitchen. Many modern kitchens have stainless steel appliances. Consider using stainless steel knobs or pulls. Retro pulls are usually round, plain and chrome-colored. Traditional kitchens tend to have bronze-colored hardware; usually pulls rather than knobs. Shaker-style hardware is distinguished by a birdcage shape in both iron and bronze.

Consider installing new hinges on your cabinets to complement the new handles and pulls. Traditional hinges can be seen on the outs ... Read more »

#Granite Countertops

According to a 2012 survey on behalf of the Marble Institute of America, 75% of homeowners who plan on remodeling their kitchen intend to purchase granite countertops. They understand that the beauty and durability of granite natural stone increases the resale value of their home while providing them an exquisite workspace in their kitchen in the meantime.

Granite is naturally heat resistant, bacteria resistant, and is easy to care for. Granite countertops can be purchased in slab form, modular pieces or granite tiles. Budget and counter shape, and personal preference usually dictate what type of granite surface is best for your kitchen countertop.

Granite countertops Slabs

Granite slabs are a high end option for countertops for two reasons they are a very large, solid, heavy piece of natural stone and they must be professionally installed. However, because they are so large (ranging from 4 5 feet high and 7-9 feet wide) they cover a s ... Read more »

Kitchen Storage & Organization: Find Drawer Organizers and Pot Racks Online

Kitchen drawers seem to become jumbled and disorganized before you’ve even filled them up. Spoons mix with forks and knives, so finding your cake server can easily turn into a treasure hunt. Your best tools for fighting off these messes are drawer liners and organizers. Kitchen drawer organizers will give each piece of flatware and serveware a designated home and keep them contained. For storing odd-shaped gadgets and utensils in drawers, use a slip-resistant drawer liner so your items won’t slide around. Once you’ve tackled this section, move on to the more complicated alternative: cabinets.

Most kitchen organizers are designed to be used in pantry cabinets, as they can fit the most stuff (but are also the most chaotic). Durable food storage containers and cabinet organizers will be your best friends when tackling this project. Sliding shelves are smart for getting to the things stored at the back ... Read more »
