AngloINFO Discussions - Granite kitchen work surfaces : Monaco

We've just had a kitchen fitted and the particular granite company did the surface in two parts with a join which we're not at all happy with. Does anyone have any experience of a company that could make a granite surface of 324 cm all in one piece to include the cut outs around the sinks? (This is common in Denmark). We would like very dark granite, almost black, (called afrique noir with the company we used).

Hi,

sorry to hear that you are unhappy with your new kitchen. I am in the business of supplying raw materials to producers that eventually sell cut slabs to the type of companies that you bought your kitchen from.

The reason that they used 2 pieces is because slabs in excess of 300 are not easy to come by. They are available though and if you had specified that you wanted it in one piece the company would have had to tell you whether they could do it or not. On the other hand they should have also told you in advance that it be supplied in 2 pieces.

To sum up, length are available up to 3.50 m but it seems that you were unware of what is available and the company did not enquiry about your needs/intentions.

I cannot really recommend anybody in this area (they should all be able to do it). There are many black varieties available, one of the most reliable being *Nero Assoluto Zimbabwe*. If possible try to get the FINE GRAIN type and one other thing: always go and physically inspect the slabs that you want them to cut anything out of. If necessary, mark the slab at the back and check once the fnished product arrives.
