Kitchen Renovations Is your kitchen sink leaking? Has the paint faded? Well then it is time to renovate the kitchen. A kitchen is one of the most frequently visited room in the house. Apart from the main purpose of cooking, it is also used for various other purposes too, like dining or having tea parties. Due to cooking, cleaning, and children and pets staining the walls, the kitchen can go through a lot of wear and tear. Also, after many years one should clean and renovate different areas of kitchen, as rusted pipes or wet places increase chances of mold. If you have an old kitchen which apart from lacking looks has leaky pipes, cracked paint, and worn out furniture; then it is time you consider renovating your kitchen. Here are various ideas to guide you in the job. Planning Before you start removing old items or adding new items to your kitchen, first thing you need to do is make a checklist. Take a little round of your kitchen, and check for every single thing in the room; which parts of the kitchen need necessary replacements and which parts need repairs. If you have a good budget then go for replacements, however if your budget is small then you can repair parts which are in a decent condition. So, check everything - cabinets, pipes, paint, lights, switchboards, sinks, appliances, windows, door, ceiling, etc. Once you are done with your checklist you can estimate the renovation cost and proceed accordingly. If you have certain objects in the kitchen which can be reused, then keep them in the basement or storeroom till the renovation is complete. Painting If you have a small kitchen then stick to shades which are close to white, so that the room looks bigger. If you have a large kitchen then consider going with a dichromatic paint scheme, like lavender and white, aqua and white, red and black, etc. Before applying any paint make sure you fix any holes or cracks in the wall, and apply a primer and sealer to increase the life of the paint. After the paint color has been applied, apply a semi-gloss or gloss finish. Applying a finish make the walls easier to clean. Flooring If your previous flooring is spoiled then consider going for a new flooring. Hardwood flooring is expensive. If you are on a tight budget then consider some laminate bamboo flooring which is quite inexpensive; and laminate flooring can be installed without hiring a professional, thus cutting down the renovation cost. Lighting Buy items which go with the design of your kitchen and install the right amount of lights. Stick more to ceiling lamps as they are away from the reach of children and throw a distributed light. Furniture Modular furniture provides many shelves and other compartments to store all your utensils and appliances. This way you can maintain all the things you need in the kitchen, inside the shelves of the cabinets and maintain a clutter-free space. Adding Accents Add few decorative accents to your kitchen which go with the decor. You can add few items like houseplants, vases, light fixtures, a bowl of fruit, paintings, etc. Make sure you don't add too many accents, otherwise the space will look closed up and the job of cleaning will become difficult too.
