The situation was equally as ugly jumping for a book on the top shelf of the library, and dare I mention the shoebox falling on my head while trying to get one finger on a corner of the box. Step stools are one handy item if they are accessible, but how do you find the best step stool for your situation? Do you own just one or do you have several in different areas of the house? Do you want an artistic form of modern art, a vintage design, or will strictly utilitarian do? DESIGNER HIGH STYLE: The Tiramisu stepladder (above) by Kartell was designed by Andries Van Onck. Many of his designs are in the collections of the museums of modern art in Chicago, London, Amsterdam and at the Louvre in Paris. This stool closes to a slim 2.75” for easy storage. Above (lower photo) is the Tricam 200-Pound Capacity Skinny Mini Stool. and it folds to a remarkable 2 thin. It is a lightweight and stable with sturdy steel steps. Its easy to fold and weighs only 12.5-Pounds. Above (top photo) is the Werner StepRight 225-Pound Duty Rating Step Stool . This is a foldable step stool with three steps and a convenient hand grip, comfortable tubular rail and oversized slip resistant steps. The feet are mar-resistant so your floor will not be damaged. Whats great is it folds flat for storing. The Design House Stockholm Step Ladder (above) is a contemporary Scandinavian element designed by Karl Malmvall. It is a decorative piece in high gloss color and comes with a peg for storing directly on the wall. It makes a nice graphic design statement to a contemporary space. It comes in black, white, or red. UTILITARIAN THIN PROFILE STEPLADDERS If you want a super skinny (folds to 1 ?”), stepstool (like the one above) that will fit/hide in a standard 24” kitchen cabinet, you’ll want to go for the Polder 2 Step Stool without Rail. DECORATIVE LEAVE THEM OUT STEP STOOLS This Kuka Stool above is gorgeous (and a little pricey in the $1300 range)… Designed by Flexform in Italy, constructed of solid canaletto walnut, extra canaletto walnut, or natural ashwood. The Little Claus bench (above) is part of New Danish Modern Normann Copenhagen?s Danish furniture series, which combines traditional Danish crafts and manufacture with modern designs. DON FORGET THE KIDS A stepstool in the bathroom or the kitchen is great for empowering kids and getting them involved in kitchen life. The first features a vintage airplane on a blue and white striped backdrop. Layla Grayce has a wonderful selections for both boys and girls. The Winsome wood folding step stool shown left has two levels for low and high reaches. It is crafted of solid wood with an antique walnut finish.
