#How To Paint a KitchenAid Mixer a New Color

Apartment Therapy Tutorials

If you've ever thought, "what was I thinking when I picked out that color?" while staring at your kitchen mixer, this DIY might just be for you. For around $10 you can repaint to freshen up or completely change the look of your mixer —a pretty sweet alternative to shelling out a few hundred bucks for a new machine!

Instructions

1. Take photos from a few different angles of your machine. Depending on how much you decide to disassemble, this reference will come in handy.

2. Throughly scrub your mixer with all-purpose cleaning solvent, making sure to remove any gunk/grease/cookie dough that is stuck to the machine.

3. Start to disassemble your machine. You can easily remove the end cover and the bowl clamping plate, and in most cases the silver strap around the top of the machine (there is a small screw near the lower left side of the motor).

What Are Kitchen Cabinet Organizers? (with pictures)

7,8,12,9,14,13,16,15,10,17

Kitchen cabinet organizers are shelves, drawers, bins, racks or other pieces that fit into cabinets in kitchens to allow for convenient storage. Organizers help divide kitchen cabinets so items can be found easily. There are many types of kitchen cabinet organizers available today.

For tall pantry kitchen cabinets, wire basket cabinet organizers tend to work well. The baskets fit under pantry shelves and slide out for easy access. Having the baskets attach underneath the shelves can still leave shelf space for larger items. For example, a baking area may include storage jars of flour, sugar and other staples on a shelf, while smaller baking supplies could fit into the basket drawers below.

The Lazy Susan is a popular type of cabinet organizer for corner kitchen cabinets. It consists of a center pole with round shelves attached. Rather than having to reach way back inside a corner ... Read more »

The Best Commercial Kitchen Flow Floorplan Ideas | eHow

Prior to tackling the kitchen design, a menu should be established. This will aid in selecting the equipment needed, which will dictate some of the layout. Proper layout will help optimize positive attributes of a space while minimizing the negative, a trick that is essential to having a properly functioning kitchen. Space limitations can be a serious problem, and are common in older locations. Use a small space to help minimize menu options and select proportional equipment. Safety, including proper lighting and space to move freely is another consideration, which goes hand in hand with ergonomics, often the prime consideration of kitchen design. Creating a safe space while eliminating wasted time and energy will keep employees happy, and prevent injuries and fatigue.

An ergonomic layout is a strictly functional setup, one that has equipment arranged in the best way for the chef and kitchen staff. The placement of equ ... Read more »

Goodness gracious this is going to be long, so let s go!

Set your time you re going to do it. There will never be a perfect time with nothing going on, you ve just got to block it off the calendar and GO! We chose to do it in the spring when my husband could give me 2 full days when he had some time off for spring break.

Number all doors and drawers with numbers and leave a number back where you got them from so there is no confusion and they will hang correctly when you re-attach them.

We spray painted our hinges with brushed nickel spray paint, so my boys put the screws in a piece of styrofoam to get them ready for spray paint.

If you have lots of build-up on your cabinets you may have to clean first with a degreaser. The Zinsser primer we used said specifically to avoid TSP cleaner, so we skipped that and ... Read more »

#How to Pick Kitchen Cabinet Drawers

Kitchen cabinets should be both beautiful and functional, which is where drawers and glides come in. Choose cabinetry that makes your kitchen life more convenient. Stronger glide technology has resulted in bigger drawers that can handle heavier items. Drawers now store everything from utensils, cutlery and spices to bulkier items like pots, pans, dishware and chopping blocks. Drawers may be kept simple without partitions or divided for easy organization. Drawer fronts typically mimic the style surrounding door faces and can be flush, overlay or lip-edged.

"One trend we've gravitated towards is drawer-only designs for base cabinetry," says Mark Hutker, an architect based in Martha's Vineyard. "In lieu of doors, we stack lower, middle and upper drawers for chef-inspired cabinet design."

Frequent use and heavy drawer contents call for drawer glides, which aid drawers in their function of opening and closing. Many cabinet manufacture ... Read more »

#Virtual Kitchen Designer: Design a Kitchen Online, Cleveland, OH

Answer

A good kitchen design begins with having accurate measurements. You will first want to decide what you need, what you want, and what existing items you would like to incorporate into your new kitchen. By drawing a preliminary room outline and floor plan, you will help others understand your ideas. Dont worry, your drawings dont have to be works of art - just clear, simple sketches.

Note: All measurements should be in inches - not feet and inches.

Walls

Start in one corner and measure along the wall approximately 36" from the floor. Measure the wall until you reach a stopping point whether it is from a break in the wall, an obstruction, or an opening. If it is a window or a door, you will want to measure all the way across the window or door, from outside of trim to outside of trim. You will also want to measure the width of the trim and note it on your drawing. Continue on to ... Read more »

#How to Paint Kitchen Cabinets

How to Paint Kitchen Cabinets

I want to repaint my kitchen cabinets. Do I need to sand and prime them before painting? Also, what kind of paint should I use? ” -Courtney

Hi Courtney,

Start by cleaning your cabinets thoroughly to remove any dirt and grease. Next, take off the hinges and knobs, and lightly sand the cabinets to remove the gloss for better adhesion (or use a liquid deglosser).

While priming never hurts, whether it’s necessary or not is determined by the type of paint (oil or latex) currently on your cabinets and the type you plan to use for repainting. If you’re changing the type of paint or painting over natural wood cabinets, then it s important to prime the cabinets first.

If you are repainting with the same type of paint that is on them now, then priming is optional. To determine the type of paint on your cabinets, and learn more about primers in general, read our article A ... Read more »

Paint is an inexpensive way to give your kitchen a new look, says Hudnall. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Kelly D. of Los Angeles)

Could your old and outdated kitchen use a little TLC? Painting your cabinets can add color and dimension, turning your room into one where you really enjoy cooking and entertaining

This kitchen project is incredibly affordable, especially compared to the cost of replacing your cabinets. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to paint your kitchen cabinetry.

1. Assess the project and gather supplies

The number of cabinets you have will decide how much paint and primer you will need and how much time the job will take. Also, consider what kind of cabinets you have: wood, laminate or metal. This can affect whether the cabinets need to be sanded, and what product you will use to paint the surface.

#How to Remove Kitchen Grease on Ceiling Fan Blades

Ceiling fan blades in a kitchen suffer from greasy buildup.

The Prep Work

Before cleaning the ceiling fan blades, it's helpful to get everything ready, including yourself, to avoid multiple trips up the stepladder. Place newspaper on the floor beneath the fan area if it has been a long time since the fan has been cleaned; globs of dust may fall off as you wipe the blades. Tape the ceiling fan switch down temporarily if children in the house may flip its wall switch on as you work. Gather extra supplies such as spare rags, paper towels and all the cleaners you'll need, setting them up on the stepladder's tray for instant access. Finally, wear eye protection or even a bandanna over your head to ensure that none of that greasy fan gunk ends up in your eyes or on your head.

Grime Time

If there's grease on the fan blades, there's most likely a buildup of dust and dirt stuck to them as well, ... Read more »

#How to Plumb an Island Sink

COST

Option 1: An island vent

Plumbing an island sink is challenging. It can't be vented the same way as a regular kitchen sink. Here's how it works.

Plumbing vents (a network of pipes that carry air and gas outdoors through a pipe exiting your roof) are essential to supply enough air to keep equal pressure in the plumbing system. They keep water and waste moving through the pipes at the right speed. A flow that's too slow leaves behind debris that clogs pipes. If it's too fast, suction siphons water from the P-trap (see photo below), allowing harmful sewer gas to enter your home. A regular kitchen sink, adjacent to a wall, has a vent hidden in the wall that connects to the drain. So it won't plug up, the vent must rise 6 in. above the overflow level of the sink before the pipe goes horizontal. Obviously, a vent pipe in a kitchen island can't do that.

As an alternative, most plumbers recommend a speci ... Read more »

#How to rehang a door

E very kitchen has a cupboard door that doesn't shut properly, or drops to the floor when we try to open it. Many of us have lived with them for years. Until now that is - all you need is a screwdriver and little know how.

The special hinges on cupboard doors have an array of screws holding them in place. The trick is working out which screws to adjust. The concealed hinge has a clever design, which allows the door to swing open without the need for extra space to the side of the cupboard. It does this by allowing the part of the hinge attached to the door to extend, moving the door outwards as it swings open. There are three ways to adjust it.

1. Vertical position of the door

This is controlled by adjusting the position of the inner part of the hinge. Different models have different ways of controlling this. The simplest have oblong screw holes. To adjust these, loosen the A and B screws (see diagram above) on both the ... Read more »
