In our Esurance  review, we find that Esurance is ideal for customers looking for low-cost insurance for their cars as its other insurance products may be underwritten by non-affiliated companies depending on your resident state. Drivers who want an innovative, hands-on approach to managing their car insurance policies will benefit from Esurance s top-rated website, mobile app and other tools to streamline insurance processes and provide support. Agents are also available 24/7 for those who want more personal interaction.

Esurance was launched in 1999 as an online discount insurer and was eventually acquired by Allstate in 2011. With its operations and processes online, Esurance is able to reduce operating costs and pass savings onto customers while having the financial backing of its parent company. Instead of spending more money on advertising, Esurance stays competitive by offering discounts such as bundling auto and home policies.

Car

Esurance provides auto insurance in 40 states and offers common discounts including good student, safe driver, multi-car and multi-policy discounts. Those interested in usage-based insurance can participate in Esurance’s DriveSense program and receive up to 30% in savings. Esurance also leverages its technology to help prevent teens from distracted driving with a device that can alert their parents when they’re using smartphones while the car is in motion.

Esurance has strong financial ratings with an A+ from A.M. Best. Although owners of motorcycles, classic cars, commercial vehicles, boats, RVS and ATVs can buy insurance for their vehicles through Esurance, the policy may be underwritten by another company. Homeowners’ insurance is only available in Wisconsin. In all other states, they are underwritten by Security First Insurance Company or a Safeco Insurance company. Condo policies are not underwritten by Esurance and renters insurance is underwritten by Homesite Insurance Group and Security First Insurance Company where Esurance policies are unavailable.

By selecting Esurance for their homeowners insurance policy, Wisconsin residents will receive a discounted premium for the first two terms of their policy. Discounts are also provided for those who bundle their policies, don’t smoke and install safety and fire prevention devices.

Life

Esurance does not provide any life insurance policies. Esurance uses Efinancial, a third pary broker, to provide life insurance policies from MetLife, HSBC, Genworth Financial, ING, Fidelity Life and other insurers.
