What is Kitchen and Bath Design?

Program Outline 2015-2016

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

• design residential kitchens and bathrooms that are in harmony with their surroundings using historical and contemporary design trends, colour theories, and design elements and principles

produce and review specifications and working drawings that use a variety of techniques, including manual drafting, computer aided drafting, and perspective drawing and rendering to convey the design solution clearly

justify design solutions through oral, written, and visual presentations during all stages of the design process

specify construction materials and systems as they relate to the cost, structure, and design of residential kitchens and baths

recommend energy efficient and sustainable materials for fixtures, finishes and appliances that are suitable for the space and design

ensure kitchen and bath designs comply with applicable legislation and requirements for the public’s health, safety, and welfare

formulate accurate contract documents and project estimating using general business and marketing principles

coordinate installation procedures within a specified time frame and required budget

collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams for the successful achievement of project goals

apply the work practices related to kitchen and bath design in environmentally responsible and sustainable ways that are beneficial to the community.
