An engineered laminate floor is either built around several layers that are pressed onto a High Density Fibre

(HDF) core board in a press, under high pressure and temperature or made up of layers of solid wood, covered

with a protective finish. Alternatively an engineered hardwood floor is made up of three layers of solid wood,

covered with a protective finish.

Engineered laminate and hardwood laminate flooring creates a floor that emulates the look of wood and

other hard flooring surfaces but is more durable, dimensionally stable and hard wearing than solid-wood

flooring plus quieter and warmer than tiles. Wood looks also bring warmth and character to modern, sleek

kitchen designs. Some laminate ranges also have a scratch resistant coating, to give extra protection.

Engineered laminate and hardwood floors are able to be installed over a variety of substrates from concrete

to tiles and as it is laid with an underlay, its sound absorption qualities are increased, which again is another

benefit compared to solid-wood floors. Also, with the right underlay and floor heating and cooling becomes

possible, adding extra comfort to a home. One point to remember however is that laminate cannot be

sanded back or refinished so it’s important to choose the right product that’s durable, will wear well and
