#Kitchen Renovation 101: Pendant Lighting Continuing to share the evolution of my ongoing kitchen renovation (click here for the first post of this series), we are now making decisions about lighting. Many home renovations wait until the end of the project to focus on lighting decisions, but in fact lighting should be prioritized early as it is one of the most important elements in the room. Imagine spending lots of money on kitchen cabinetry, then choosing light fixtures that don t add any personality or functionality? Not a recipe for success. When it comes to our design projects, we patiently guide our clients in making fun and sometimes adventurous selections. It s always exciting to see them installed. Here s a photo of my kitchen pre-demolition. Previously the kitchen had only recessed lighting, but oh, the possibilities Using different style light fixtures is the most challenging scenario- but done well, we think it s the chicest. We love the cone shape of these Thomas O Brien hanging pendants. And they come in so many wonderful finishes. We re kind of partial to the white with antique bronze detail. The simplicity of this large elegant pendant (most likely one of a pair) looks perfect here. We love the recent popularity of using wall sconces in kitchens to add a new design element. Particularly when there are high ceilings, this looks amazing. As you can see, there is no shortage of wonderful wall sconces to choose from. In terms of selecting pendants for over the island or a kitchen table, these are our absolute favorites: What are your thoughts on kitchen lighting?
