#Toshiba 15LV505 Review 2015

Even though it is called a kitchen TV, this Toshiba television will fit well on any countertop, nightstand or desk. It only measures 12.6 inches high, 15.83 inches wide and 5.52 inches deep. Even though it is one of the heavier models in our review, it is still quite portable and can easily be moved from room to room, if needed.

The 15.6-inch screen is big enough to see all the action but small enough to be discreetly tucked away when more counter space is needed. A remote control is included with the kitchen TV, so you can flip channels and skip tracks no matter where you are in the room. The remote also allows you to adjust angles, enable closed captioning, create parental controls and set the sleep timer.

Since the Toshiba 15LV505 has built-in ASTC/NTSC/QAM digital tuning, it is capable of receiving digital and analog signals, as well as cable television signals. This, along with the slot-loading DVD player, will ensure you'll have a variety of media options to keep you entertained. The DVD player can also read DVD-R/RW, as well as CD-R/RW and VCD formats.

Using only 35 watts during operation, this countertop television is compliant with Energy Star standards. However, Toshiba did not specify how much wattage their speakers put out. They did list that there were two speakers, that the speakers were bottom-mounted and that the audio was stereo, but no specific output was given.

Display

The aspect ratio of the screen can be easily switched between 16:9 for widescreen broadcasts and 4:3 for fullscreen. One of the display features that stands out the most is the five-millisecond response time. This is among the lowest response times we found in our review. Response time measures how long it takes for the pixels to react to change. A low number like five milliseconds means that movements will not be blurred on the screen and it will look more like real life.

Even if you're moving around the room, this kitchen TV has a horizontal viewing angle of 150 degrees and a vertical viewing angle of 170 degrees. However, no brightness or contrast ratio were specified. This means that you'll be able to see the images at an angle without a problem, but this kitchen TV may not do well in a brightly lit room.

Connections

Even though this kitchen TV does not have an HDMI input, it has something called ColorStream HD. This is component video that allows HD signals to be transferred to the TV. However, since most people are using a single HDMI cable for their high-definition viewing, the ColorStream multi-cable system seems less user-friendly.

On the back of the Toshiba LCD TV/DVD player you will also find RCA video and audio inputs, an S-Video input, a headphone jack and an antenna jack. This kitchen TV also has a coaxial digital audio output jack, which enables you to connect the DVD player to external speakers. This output signal is compatible with Dolby Digital and DTS sound.
