The Black or basic version of the card pays a $10 reward for every $200 spend on your NY C Rewards Card. That sounds like an attractive 5% rewards deal, but remember that you can only use your card in NY C to earn those rewards and your reward can only be redeemed at NY C stores when you use your NY C card.

The Platinum version of the card pays a $20 reward for every $200 in purchases, but you have to spend at least $400 in a calendar year before you can be upgraded to the Platinum card. Furthermore, you have to continue spending $400 on your card each year to keep Platinum status.

You can upgrade sooner with the NY C Rewards cards than with similar cards, for example, the GapCard requires $800 in calendar year purchases to upgrade to its silver status.

You can use your rewards at NY C, its outlet stores, and its online store. Rewards coupons can be combined with other coupons and discounts for additional savings.

Card Cost

Like most retail credit cards. the NY C Card has a high APR - 24.99% variable. If you pay your balance in full each month - and you should with an APR this high - you can avoid expensive finance charges on your balance.

There s no annual fee on the NY C Rewards Credit Card. Late payments are charged up to $35 and returned payments are charged up to $25.

Other Perks

NY C Rewards Credit Cards have a few other perks to encourage shopping. For example, cardholders earn Birthday coupon good for 25% off with the Black card or 30% off with the Platinum card. Cardholders get free shopping periodically throughout the year, but you have to pay attention to see when free shipping applies and use your card to get the benefit.

The new rewards program is less complicated than NY C s old program which gave a $25 reward for every 5 purchases or for spending $100 or more in a single month. Those $25 rewards could only be redeemed on purchases of $50 or more.

Is the NY C Credit Card Worth It?

It’s hard to recommend this card because there are no major perks. The 5% reward sounds attractive, but you have limited ability to earn and redeem rewards. The Target REDCard gives a 5% discount on all purchases (faster earnings) and has Free Shipping on all Target.com purchases. Discover it periodically offers 5% cashback on purchases at clothing stores, which would include NY C and other clothing retailers.

For people needing to boost their credit score. a limited-purpose credit card may be a better start than a secured credit card since there s no annual fee and no security deposit. Otherwise, it s just another store credit card cluttering your wallet.
