(WSAW) -- Experienced welders can turn what they know into college credits at the upcoming Welding Test Out from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Nicolet College. Students who test out of classes will pay only 25 percent of the normal tuition for the associated credits. “This is a great way for anyone with welding experience to get a pretty big jump start on earning a college credential in the field,” stated Craig Deer, Nicolet Welding instructor, in a news release. “This can save people both time and money. They won’t have to attend classes to learn what they already know.” Individuals will have the opportunity to earn up to 21 college credits for skills they currently possess. Nicolet’s Welding Technical Diploma requires students earn a total of 34 credits. “A college credential is a valuable seal of approval in the industry and can open up a lot more doors to advance in the field,” Deer stated. Testing in the Birchwoods Center will be conducted in six areas. These include Gas Metal Arc (MIG), Shielding Metal Arc (Stick), Gas Tungsten Arc (TIG), and Flux Core welding, along with thermal cutting and blueprint reading.
