DIY: Pendant Light Fixture | eHow UK

Use decorative pendant lamps for task lighting.

interior lights image by Georgios Alexandris from Fotolia.com

Buy a pendant light fixture you can modify to your liking or build your own unique lamp. Besides a traditional lighting store or home improvement centre, antique stores and thrift shops are excellent places to find pendant fixtures or materials for making the pendants. Pendants can be made from any number of materials, including small vases, bowls, lamp shades, bottles or metal cylinders. The item you choose will need a small hole so that you can feed the electrical cord through and attach a light socket. Drill the hole yourself or, if you are working with glass or antiques, have a professional do it for you. Thread the other end of the cord through a decorative canopy for a DIY pendant fixture.

Shut the power off at the fuse box or electrical pane before installing. Remove the fuse or flip the circuit breaker to ... Read more »

#12 Inspiring Ways To Hang Art in the Kitchen - Design Milk

The kitchen is a room often overlooked when it comes to hanging fine art. True, many kitchens are wide open, but if your space has even one wall (even a backsplash), or is self-contained, there are plenty of opportunities. Not only can artwork bring in color, it can set the mood, and add life and soul to sometimes sterile environments. For inspiration, have a look at how art, both figurative and abstract, is displayed in these 12 modern kitchens.

A pair of colorful, collage-like pieces framed in pale wood that hang above the dark wood shelf brings color upwards on the high white wall. Colors are pulled from the artwork and used throughout the kitchen, from the green counter stools to the array of dishes stacked on the stainless steel countertop. Although this kitchen was actually set up for The Design Files Open House  in Melbourne, Australia last year, it is perfectly functional for th ... Read more »

#14 Kitchen Backsplash Ideas That Refresh Your Space

A kitchen can look finished without a backsplash, and sometimes a clean coat of (washable) paint is what best executes a design. But at the same time, there’s also an opportunity to use the space to anchor the overall design of the room.

While countertops, flooring and cabinets are generally places to keep it simple, the backsplash is a good place to inject some personal style, whether that’s with a mosaic feature or a bold color. And since that wall literally connects the countertops with the cabinets it’s also a place to tie everything together.

Do you really need a one? Not really. But you’ll inevitably get that wall dirty while cooking or washing dishes, and an easy-to-clean surface can make messes easier to wipe up, especially if your stove doesn’t have a one built in. And almost any type of material can work–from bamboo to corkboard–as long as it’s properly sealed.

#13 Fresh Kitchen Trends in 2014 You Must See

Outdoor Kitchens are in for 2014

The kitchen industry is seeing a shift away from the almighty all white kitchen trend which has swept the industry over the past couple of years and is now seeing a move towards natural materials, brass accessories, monochrome minimalism and patterned splash backs.  Here, we at Freshome will predict what we believe will be the strongest kitchen trends in 2014.

1.  Warmer Metal Fixings

This year there will be a shift toward warmer metal tones such as brass and copper, edging away from the brash, stainless steel and chrome colder metals.  Iron and similar tones are making a come back, very much learning towards the timeless traditional.  Unlike the photo below which only highlights a minimalistic use of brass on handles fixings and trim, bold brass and copper kitchen hoods and appliances (where possible) will be big in 2014.  They re littered throughout the trade ... America's Test Kitchen - TV.com

To make this short and to the point, Chris could you PLEASE STOP being so DRAMATIC when critiquing the finished dish when the women are presenting? You only do this with Bridget and Julia. The ahhh, mmmm , and this is the best dish I have ever eaten is very annoying and so predictable.

Would you please give the male cooks more dishes to present? They are so interesting and professional in their presentation. You obviously are intimidated by them, because you never exude your enthusiasm as much as you do when the women are presenting. In fact, you have very little to say.

Lastly, we all know Julia can breathe, however, could she PLEASE STOP SMELLING every little thing? I counted her saying Ahh that smells sooo good! and Doesn't that smell gooood? over 10 times in one show.

No one cares! She really need to stop the dramatics; the ohhing and ahhing, and it tastes so good , and act more professional. Then, most disturbing, is w ... Read more »

Clutter Free Countertops

For our family the kitchen is the heart of our home. It is the most used area of our house and I personally consider it a working space. We cook here, we eat here, we even do home projects and school homework on our kitchen island . A good way to keep your kitchen clean and organized is to have clutter free countertops. In this area for example I used regular hook-screws under our cabinets to hang my favorite mugs. Looks cute and clutter free!

Posted by Whirlpool India in Built-In Cooking Featured December 30, 2014

Ever since 37-year-old Mrs. Singhania a homemaker from Kolkata stepped into her new home, she wasn’t too happy getting into the kitchen and cooking her signature meals. Was her family not appreciating her hard work? Was she coming-of-age and losing interest? Was she running out of ideas on cooking healthy meals? No. Mrs. Singhania was fed up with the clutter around – the utensils over the countertop, the unsightly affair of dry groceries welcoming the sight and of the cylinder baring its ugly self. She needed respite from the mess around, from the oil stains, the dirty tiles, the ugly cylinder peeking at her and from the unholy smoke Mrs. Singhania needed a change a modern, satisfactory, fully built-in, anti-finger print kitchen makeover!

How do you clean composite black kitchen sinks? | Ask.com

When cleaning composite black kitchen sinks, harsh chemicals should be avoided.

First, spray the entire sink down with a pH balanced or neutral cleaner.
  • Wipe with damp cloth After spraying the entire surface with cleaner, take a wet or damp cloth and wipe the cleaner up completely. Then dry it with a clean cloth.
  • Maintain the sink

Cabinetry is the most obvious feature in most kitchens, so if black is an option, take note if a darker ambiance will work in the space at hand. Small kitchens benefit from lighter accents, while large kitchens are elegant in shining black and stainless steel.

The best types of kitchen sinks are roomy enough to accommodate all of a homeowner's cookware, deep enough to avoid too much splashing, durable, and easy to clean. They are also scratch- and stain-resistant and have sturdy faucets and other hardware.

    kitchen shelving uk | Momentsunderglass.com

Glasses, bowls and plates are some of many things you should put in your kitchen. And for those things, you need storage, which is no other than kitchen shelving. The kitchen shelf will keep your things and it automatically will make your kitchen look tidy, neat, and nice. There are two kinds of kitchen shelf, which are close and open shelving. Those two kinds of shelving give both advantages and disadvantages as well.

Close kitchen shelving can keep your things inside the shelf safely. Whatever you save, it will preserve its cleanness since it is closed with the door. However, when you are about to take the thing you want, it is not that simple because you should open the door of the shelf first. This kind of shelf is rarely used by people. The second kind of kitchen shelf is an open one. The only disadvantage it has is that it has no cover so your things may easily get dirty.

But, this open kitchen s ... Read more »
