Are you looking for a solid, well constructed and rustic kitchen island unit for your French farmhouse kitchen?

In 2008, I was too, but I couldn't find one at a price I was willing to pay. So I built my own instead. It was always an ambition of mine to make much of what we needed for our house, however I was, at the time, too busy with our own renovations.

My wife and I have always been keen on Chalon, kitchen island unit, so we decided to get a quote for one of their large rustic kitchen island units. The thinking was, if we could buy a an island unit from Chalon, then I could continue working on our renovations and we'd ultimately still get what we wanted without a long delay.

The Chalon quote (2006) for came to £11,000 plus vat just for the basic unit (2.1m x 1.2m) or £13,000 plus Vat to have a Belfast sink built in.

Now, Chalon are a fantastic brand of furniture and really make an excellent product but we just couldn't afford one of their units at those prices, so it made sense to design and build one instead, based around the Chalon style.

I'm now a registered artisan in France and having successfully built my own kitchen (and others) I now build kitchen units to order.
