Maryland Real Estate License Requirements and Information

The State of Maryland, also know as America in Miniature due to its diverse geography of sandy beaches, rolling hills, forests and plains. Most of Maryland s 5,600,388 population is spread out in 10 major cities, these are Baltimore, Frederick, Gaithersburg, Rockville, Bowie, Hagerstown, Annapolis, Salisbury, College Park and Greenbelt.   • King Williams School  was the first school in the United States, opening its doors in 1696
  • The Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the first cathedral in the United Sates and is the first Roman Catholic diocese.
  • The first dental school in the US was opened at the University of Maryland.
  • The first successful manned balloon launch in the US was on June 24, 1784 in Baltimore.
  • Maryland became the first state to enact Workmen s compensation laws in 1902.
  • The first planned city, an experiment in both physical and social planning was Greenbelt MD, now one of the 10 major cities in the state.
  • And last but not least Annapolis MD was the first Capitol of the United States.

Requirements for Obtaining a Real Estate License in Maryland:

All applicants should:

  • be of good character and reputation.
  • be at least 18 years of age.
  • have successfully completed a basic course in real estate approved by the Commission that does not require more than 60 clock hours of classroom instruction; and includes a 3 clock hour course in real estate ethics approved by the Commission; or if approved by the Commission as an alternative, courses in real estate subjects in any college, including a 3 clock hour course in real estate ethics approved by the Commission.
  • pass an examination given by the Commission.
  • obtain, from a licensed real estate broker, a commitment providing that the applicant shall become affiliated with the licensed real estate broker as a real estate salesperson on the granting of a real estate salesperson license to the applicant.
  • meet any other requirement that the Commission establishes to ensure that only individuals who are professionally competent and of good character and reputation are licensed.
