When the homeowners decided to go under a major renovation with their Colonial revival home in lower Westchester County NY. a smartly designed classic kitchen was their main goal. They opened the entire space, creating a bright and spacious new kitchen and family room area.

Cabinets are painted maple beaded inset door with custom profile, while the island is cherry wood with a custom espresso stain. Honestly, nothing looks more appealing than traditional white cabinets (painted in Benjamin Moore White Dove OC-17 ) and a large dark stained island. What a classic formula!

This kitchen is impressive from every angle!

Kitchen Backsplash: Vermeere Classics Handmade Series , Manhattan Field in Sweet Bluette Crackle. The herringbone is the same colorway but from the mosaics series.

The custom hood incorporates large custom corbels designed to integrate with the cabinetry. The hood was installed at 36 above the cooktop, because the homeowner is tall!

Kitchen Island Stain

The island is cherry wood with a custom espresso stain.

Counters are honed Carrera Marble, with a double thickness (2.5 ) on the island.

Kitchen Island Design

A Rohl fireclay apron sink provides beautiful contrast with the dark espresso stained cherry cabinetry. A custom paper towel holder above the waste can keeps paper towel rolls off the counter.

Faucet is the Kohler Vinnata faucet in polished nickel.

To keep counter clutter to a minimum, a custom paper towel holder is built into this cherry island.

The paper towel holder is built into the cabinetry custom. The measurements and design are very precise so the roll can fit in the space, be easily removed and also line up with the surrounding cabinetry.

Recycling Kitchen Station

A 24 wide pullout waste drawer holds two cans (for garbage and recycling), a roll of paper towels, and a small drawer for dishtowels.

Spacious Kitchen

The kitchen was designed to offer a spacious open plan with plenty of island seating and lots of hidden storage.

Windows on this elevation are 36 wide x 54 tall.

The island is designed with hidden storage for placemats and trays (see next photo).

A touch latch on the tray storage cabinet door allows for it to totally blend into the cabinetry, but provides a huge space for trays. Shallow lap drawers provide just enough storage for the family s placemats.

Wolf microwave and oven fit snuggly on the wall next to the bar cabinetry. Next to the the oven and microwave, a tall broom cabinet houses cleaning gear.

Bar Cabinet

The bar area is set apart from the main cooking areas of the kitchen, but adjacent to the dining room and serves as both buffet and drinks area.

Bar Design

Custom pullouts were designed to hold liquor bottles upright, with adjustable dividers to keep them from tipping.

Three deep drawers with extra wide frames house spices and other necessities near the range.

Hardware is the Schaub and Company traditional pull.

A beaded inset glass door with raised panel detail on the appliance garage below. Knob by Schaub Co.

Under Cabinet Puck Lighting

A custom treatment under the wall cabinets encases puck lighting and a plugmold for a completely custom, finished look.

Kitchen Island Dimensions

The island measures 54 x 109 .

Kitchen Desk

The homeowner has views of the yard from her desk, adjacent to the kitchen. Special vertical slots were designed for paperwork.

The desktop is cherry with a custom stain that matched the kitchen island.

Roman Shade Fabric is Melbury by Colefax and Fowler .

Kitchen Desk Cabinet

A special drawer was designed to house the printer. A faux double drawer front kept the symmetry in this kitchen desk.

Cabinet Grille

Polished nickel grilles from Just Grilles in the UK give a little bling to the front of the desk.

The designer also designed the family room built ins, which feature cherry counters which tie in with the kitchen island.

Stone surrounding fireplace is honed Blue Celeste marble.
