Combine 3 Ikea Parts Into a Rolling Kitchen Island Many rolling kitchen islands are designed for larger kitchens that have lots of unused space. By combining Ikea Effektiv cabinets. Rill locking casters. and a Vika Amon table top you can build a smaller island inexpensively. Ikea Hackers author Jules lives in a two-room farmhouse without closets and needed room to store cooking implements in her tiny kitchen. She was able to score used Ikea Effektiv cabinets cheaply; at $210 new these are the only component of the island that isn't budget friendly, but you can always use similar cabinets from other manufacturers should you not be able to find the exact model used here. You'll also need a piece of birch plywood for the backing and two corner shelves . To build the island you only need to attach one cabinet on top the other, then attach the table top and plywood backing. finally add the casters and corner shelves. You'll end up with a smaller attractive kitchen island with a faux butcher block finish that is just high enough to sit two barstools under the overhang. You'll want to apply finish, stain, or paint to the table top.
