#How To Install Kitchen Cabinets - Wall Unit (Painting & Decorating)

This how to video gives you a simple and effective way to install a kitchen wall unit. Watch it and you ll never need installation assistance again.

Kitchen Fitting is easy. Well it is for me – I've been doing it for years. My name is Yves Way, and today I'm going to be showing you some basic kitchen fitting tips – the right way.

In this video I'm going to be showing you how to install kitchen wall units. We are going to be installing one 500 wall unit, and we are going to line it up with the base we've already put in.

I'm going to put my spirit level up the side of my base unit, to make sure I've got a level line.

We are going to measure 500 from the top of the base unit. And then we are going to measure, to find our height, the height of the wall unit – which in this case is 720 millimetres. That's going to be the top of our wall unit.

The fixes we are supplied with this wall unit are two wall mounting brackets, and an adjustable leaver to the back of the unit. This will allow us, from the inside, to tighten the unit to the wall and adjust the height to level also.

Now I'm going to put the bracket in place supplied with this unit and measure all the reductions needed, which is 35 millimetres to where I install the bracket from the line I already drawn.

I need also to take into consideration that the other side of the unit has a 18 millimetres wall side, which we will need to reduce before we put the cabinet in place. And then I have to mark my 35 millimetres down and level a new line. This is the line I'll be fixing my bracket to; the old line will show me the top of the unit.

Ok, so I've lowered 35 mil line on top of the unit and 18 mil reduced for the side of the unit. I'm now going to hold the fixing bracket back to front, on the wall, just to get my fixing holes that I'm going to drill. That one we've got into timber and this one is gone into cavity.

It's very important to use a cavity fixed there's no timber behind the wall, as a normal screw will very quickly loose its grip and overspin.

Now apply the wall unit the correct way around and we do the same idea for the other side.

Now that one bracket is in place, and I've levelled the side of my unit, I'm going to measure the internal of the back of the unit which is 464 millimetres.

I'm not going to go too tight – I'm going with 460 millimetres. That's where I'll fix my next bracket. So I'm going to transfer my 460 from the edge of the bracket to the far end of the next bracket.

Get my two markings and then drill them. So we hit timber on that one again; cavity on that one. So once again, I'm going to be using cavity fixing just to give us the fix.

Best fixing we can on that side. Now I'm screwing into the timber. That's it, out bracket is in place.

Now to lift my unit into place, I'm going to be using the line I drew of which is going to be the side of my wall unit to guide me. I'm going to lift the wall unit to the height of the wall, the line I wanted on the wall and I'm going to sit it on the bracket that's on there. Now I'm going to be using internal mechanisms to make sure that the whole unit is levelled.

And then I'm going to be using the same mechanisms to tighten it back to the wall. Use the screws in the face, to then tighten the unit, pinch it with the bracket back to the wall. This will secure the unit.

Now I'll do the same on the other side. I'm going to take it up slightly, just to suit level, not too far, and then I'm going to be using the front screw to tighten it up and pinch it back to the wall.
