KITCHEN EQUIPMENT - PROFESSIONAL RANGES - NYTimes.com
By PIERRE FRANEY
Published: September 16, 1981
When home cooks get serious they start to cast covetous eyes on their neighbors' professional ranges. The restaurant range they usually buy, when they do decide to splurge, is a Garland. When I set up my own kitchen several years ago, I chose a Wolf instead.
The decision was relatively easy. I'd worked with both stoves in restaurants over the years. I felt that if I were going to spend a lot of money on a range for my home I wanted it to be the sturdiest I could find; I wanted it to suffer abuse gladly.
In my experience and that of others I've talked to, both the Wolf and the Garland proved to be good pieces of equipment - but the Garland appears to be more balky and less heavy. The relative heaviness of the Wolf gives me the sense of sturdiness, and so far that sense has not been betrayed.
Brands aside, there is a real question as to whet

Kitchen Island Plans
Nowadays, you can see islands in almost every kitchen. The addition of this element is beneficial in many ways. It increases the workspace and helps you in better arrangement of the appliances. While planning and setting them in your kitchen, you need to consider a few things such as the available area, budget, island size, designs, etc.
Area Available
The first thing to consider is the area available for the installation. Start by measuring your kitchen. While doing this, don't count the total area, measure only the available free space. This means excluding your counter, appliances like the fridge, furniture such as the cabinets, and any other items occupying the floor area. Now, you have to fit the island in this area, accordingly opt for the size. Always remember that you need to keep enough space to move around the island.
Size and Placement
Once you finalize the size of the island after checking out the area a

White Kitchen Cabinets | Kitchen Cabinet Value
White Kitchen Cabinets Are Always a Good Choice
White Kitchen Cabinets are to kitchen design what a little black dress is to fashion. They go everywhere. The way you accessorize and choose details make them a perfect fit in any kitchen style or design. Many people choose white cabinetry for the kitchen because it makes the kitchen light and bright and because white looks clean.
In terms of price, white kitchen cabinets are more expensive than some other cabinet styles, but the price actually is determined more by the wood used to make the cabinets than the white paint or vinyl coating. For example, at one home improvement store a 36” sink base cabinet will cost $116 in oak, $125 in white, and $154 in maple. There are, however, great variations in the cost and the quality of white cabinets.
The paint or coating on white kitchen cabinets can hide the wood used to build the cabinet

Kitchen Lighting - Lamps Beautiful
Of all the rooms in a house, kitchens have the most requirements for light and present the most diverse opportunities for illumination. This is because of the different activities that take place in a kitchen. One activity, of course, is preparing food. Preparing vegetables? It starts at the sink where they are washed. Over-the-sink lighting can be a simple 24 inch fluorescent tube fixture with a diffuser, a flush mounted ceiling light, a recessed light, or a mini pendant.
From the sink we move on to a counter to chop the vegetables. This counter can be adjacent to the sink, underneath the cabinets. Since this usually is a dark space (light from the general fixtures in the middle of the ceiling doesn't reach this area very well), a perfect solution is under cabinet lighting. There is a variety to choose from, in lengths from 7 to 48 inches. These are modular--they plug into each other and can be controlled by one switch, so consistent brig

Tiling a kitchen splashback | Tiling
Tiling a kitchen splash back requires patience and can be a very time consuming job, but can be one of the most satisfying of DIY jobs if done correctly. This pages do not cover cutting or applying the tiles as this is covered in detail in other articles.
This is not a simple job and can be very time consuming if done correctly.
The first job is to remove the pelmet as it is easier to cut a few millimetres from the pelmet than it is to tile around it. The pelmet could be screwed either from underneath or above.
Remove the screws that are holding it and remove the pelmet and store it in a safe place.
Now we need to find the centre of the area that we are tiling, this has been complicated slightly as one of the cupboards is 100mm wider than the other and so it will look better if we find the centre between these two cupboards rather than finding the centre at the worktop level. Draw a line down the centre using a sp

Country Kitchen Ideas
Kitchens have always been the focal point of our homes. Most homeowners are willing to go that extra mile to make their kitchen very special. Since kitchens are often the place for family gatherings and important discussions, a warm and cozy ambiance is a must. A country style kitchen is a perfect blend of old-world charm and modern comfort.
Tips
Color
Since country decorating is all about warmth, a splash of warm colors throughout the house is a must. Pastel shades like butterscotch yellow, beige, cream, and light peach complement the bold furniture and other decorations. Earthy shades like terracotta and light brown also suit the country style, but then make sure you have a spacious kitchen. These colors tend to eat away the light and make the room appear smaller than it is.
Flooring
Terracotta tiles in a hexagonal shape look perfect for this theme. Wooden flooring exudes a classic elegance which i

Kitchen Aprons - Choose Your Apron Image
Message aprons first appeared in the late 1960s. Kiss the cook and For this I went to college were some of the most popular messages embossed on the once-again-popular full-length aprons. These messages were a reflection of the Feminist Movement that was starting to pick up steam at this time.

beautiful designs
to be placed on your next kitchen apron.
While everyday women were using kitchen aprons for a variety of tasks, television shows mirrored this by featuring women wearing aprons in nearly every episode of family favorites. Over the past four decades, many of these shows have been in re-runs allowing later generations to have a peek into life in the 1950s. Naturally, it was not as idyllic as portrayed on television, but the shows have helped develop a stereotype of both the 1950s, in general, and kitchen aprons.

Modern Kitchen Ideas
There are pictures you can see online if you want to look at contemporary kitchens. But, the more pictures you see, the more you will feel like adding different items to the kitchen. However, the modern kitchen follows a few design principles. The main design elements comprises clean lines, bold and contrast colors, some modern art fixtures, lot of light, and an uncluttered space. So, let us look at each of the kitchen design elements in detail.
Modern Kitchen Design Ideas
It is not about the items or accessories that will give your kitchen the feel of a modern kitchen, but the design itself. So, keep in mind the elements below and shop for items, furniture, or accessories which go in harmony with the design elements.
Clean Lines
Always maintain clean long lines in the kitchen. This doesn't mean that there can't be curves; you can also opt for kitchen countertops or other furniture that are curved in shape. Y

Searching for Cheap Kitchen Doors? Don’t forget about the Quality!
16th November. 2013 Published by Kitchen Restoration
There’s an old saying – ‘buy cheap, buy twice’. What that basically means is that if you have cost as your one and only criteria when deciding on a purchase, then that ‘cheap’ price tag could end up being a false economy.
But in an age where every penny counts, we have to consider the bottom line number on every major purchase we make, including our home refurbishment plans. One of the parts of our house that is most likely to be refurbished at some point is the kitchen. However, how much that refurbishment costs is down to you. So let’s take a quick look at your options.
#1 – most expensive: A full refit
A ‘from the ground up’ refit is by far and away the most expensive option. This involves basically ripping out your existing kitchen and starting again, literally from ‘the groun

Kitchen Sinks
Kitchen sinks have become an integral feature in modern homes, but little is known about how they came to be included in the food preparation and utensil cleaning processes. Some historians believe that kitchen sinks began in prehistoric times as stone bowls used to hold water. In America, most sinks were made of stone during the first century and a half of the nation's existence.
The modern sink, usually made from stainless steel, was not commonly available until after the beginning of World War II. In 1909, stainless steel became the metal of choice for eliminating corrosion. Another development was the process by which porcelain enamel could be fired onto cast iron. The porcelain was generally white because, when the process was developed, the nation was obsessed with the concept of cleanliness, and it was easiest to see dirt on white.
Today's Kitchen Sinks
The bottom line is that, no matter what the style of a home, the kitchen sink

Kitchen Sink - What's are new options for small houses
Most folks look for simple, elegant design and low maintenance. They want to make a design statement. Small house people are a little different: They place their emphasis on multi-purpose functionality. When you have less space, getting the most from it becomes a priority. That said, no one is going to give up aesthetics if they don't have to.
Now that we are into the 2010s, there are several design trends that show up regularly.
- Farm house type sinks are increasingly popular. Also called apron front sinks, they have a vintage look people like. (Most vintage sinks are completely different, but no matter.) They are available in porcelain, fire clay, and stainless steel. I've even seen a couple in copper. They are generally mounted under the counter or flush with it. The basin is a deep rectangle, but available with two wells if you want them. They're expensive, but very pr

Kitchen Shelf - Canadian Woodworking Magazine
This is a project that will help you get a little bit more out of the sun that may be in your kitchen. If you’re currently cramped for space to grow herbs or plants, or if you just need a little extra space to sun-ripen your tomatoes, this is a simple shelf solution for your kitchen.
Any shelving solution for your kitchen sink will need to be particular to your needs and decor, so there are no exact measurements given for this project.
Before you Start
First, you’ll have to determine if this type of shelf will work in your kitchen. Considerations include: window usage; available room (left, right and above the sink); and window coverings.
Window Usage
Do you open the window often? Make sure that your shelf enables you to maintain your current window usage. You may opt to build one simple shelf to extend your window sill and give you complete access to your window.

DIY kitchen remodel: repurposed antique kitchen island.
Last summer I saw a posting on Craigslist. I felt like my teeth were being electrocuted, which is how you know something good is happening.

Oh friends, Ive been having lots of fun partying with some awesome bloggers in the So You Think Youre Crafty contest. Today Id like to share with you my tutorial for my silverware kitchen clock.
The challenge for the first week was In The Kitchen. I thought it would be fun to make something I could use in my kitchen made from kitchen items. I used a charger plate for the face and silverware for hands.
