The robot consists of two dexterous arms and hands, made by The Shadow Robot Company, which are mounted above a kitchen surface but retract from view when not in use.

Inventor Mark Oleynik, a computer scientist, says that the limbs, which have 24 joints and 129 sensors, are able to faithfully reproduce the movements of a human hand , so that the robot can cook food as well as a human chef.

Help needed.

My youngest son decided to use one of the kitchen cupboard doors as a swing.

As a result it came off.

This is an open swinging door below the sink to give you an idea of what type of door it is.

Unfortunately the hinge has come out taking the screws with it.

I can t screw the thing back in as there isn t enough wood left in the side panel to hold the screw.

I can t move the hinge as this would involve cutting a new circular hole in the back of the door (which sounds like a nightmare).

I was thinking of plugging the hole in the side panel with some polyfilla or something more substantial, letting it dry and then re-screwing the door in.

Any advice appreciated.

Island arrives in two large flat boxes, fairly heavy. Plenty of Styrofoam packing. So far, so good.

Removed all the parts and laid them out in my garage. Assembly instructions were okay.

A couple of the predrilled holes were poorly aligned, and one wouldn't work at all. Had to drill a new one.

When I got to the legs, (late in the process), I found two with cracks, plus one with an obvious repair.

Were it not for the aged finish of the piece in the first place, this would have been a deal killer.

By this point, the prospect of disassembling everything and figuring out the packing was daunting.

Final point; The drawer simply slides on a couple of felt strips. No drawer guides.

Installing wall tile in the kitchen between the backsplash and the wall cabinets is an easy task to accomplish. Tile stands up to the necessary cleaning behind a range or cutting board better than paint and is very economical.

To start with, we have to make a few design decisions. The first one is to select the tile that appeals to you. Also, the color you choose for the grout should complement the tile color. Some like a dark grout to make the grout lines stand out.

The third design decision is the space that you will allow between the tile. The width of the grout line will determine whether you need sanded or non-sanded grout. Non-sanded grout should only be used when the grout will fill a gap 3/16 or smaller. Sanded grout may also be used on 3/16 grout lines but nothing smaller.

The carpets are ripped up, switches torn from walls and there are no light fittings, let alone light bulbs. Naked wires hang from the ceilings. There isn't even a toilet-roll holder. Most of the heating oil has been drained from the tank.

This isn't a squalid bedsit, far from it. This was the scene that greeted a couple when they sold their shipping business in Hong Kong and retired back to Britain to live in a £500,000 farmhouse near Totnes, a historical market town in South Devon.

The sellers were a couple in their mid-50s who had fallen on hard times. The husband had been made redundant from his banking job and, desperate to claw back money and sell fast, had agreed to an offer 15 per cent below the asking price  -  and begrudged every penny he lost.

#How much do kitchen cabinets really cost?

Ok, so I should probably get a consultation with an expert somewhere, but at this point I'm thinking paint instead of total replacement.

However, I did go look at some cabinets at Home Depot and really liked the Thomasville Cottage Cabinets in Brierwood finish. The display said that a 10 by 10 kitchen would cost $3,300. The guy that worked there said to double that number, so $6,600. Is this number about right, for just cabinets and no installation or am I still being lowballed?

It's hard to give a range, it depends on so many factors. We chose Brookhaven (made by woodmode), and ours are almost 30K, not including installation, for a 24 x 20' kitchen. For our remodel, we spent the bulk of our budget on cabinetry, because that is a big ticket item and I'm hoping that they will withstand the test of time.
