Purchase unfinished knotty cabinets for your kitchen. Knotty woods such as pine, alder or hickory will make an ideal base for rustic style.

Install the cabinets into your kitchen, but leave the doors and drawers off. Place these in an area where appropriate for wood finishing work, such as a wood shop, garage or an unfinished basement.

Drive nails around the doors and drawers in a random pattern to a depth of about 1 inch, then remove the nails. Pattern the holes in clusters of at least three.

Hammer gently along the doors and drawers to cause indentations in the wood. Focus on the edges, since this is where aging occurs naturally. The number of indentations you create is up to you, depending on how rustic you want the cabinets to look.

DIY Shaker Molding for a Kitchen Cabinet (5 Steps) | eHow

Wash the doors and cabinet facing of the kitchen cabinets to remove dirt and grease. Use dish soap and water. Unscrew the door by removing the hinges from both the door and cabinet using a screwdriver. Unscrew the hardware and set it aside.

Sand the door with medium-grit sandpaper to remove the finish, using an orbital sander. An orbital sander has a movement that prevents scratches when sanding wood surfaces.

Measure the height of the door. Cut two pieces of 1/2-by-3-inch board to this length with a table saw. Apply carpenter's glue to the wide side of a board. DEAR LOIS: You are by no means the first person to struggle with cabinet knobs. I have seen knobs placed in all sort of places on cabinet doors, but there is a standard many carpenters seem to follow that has worked well for me and many of my customers over the years.

Montessori Toddler Kitchen (and Mini Fridge Makeover) - Joyful Abode

This video is kind of funny what with the louuud noise thought I d share it anyway. Also, I think I m going to get rid of these cups. The snap-on lid is too hard for Anneliese to do herself, but she can do screw-on lids just fine. Joseph likes to play with the straws until everything spills too, so these aren t my favorite.

Anneliese has had a lesson in washing fruits and veggies in her colander, and knows she can use her step stool to access the kitchen sink to do that whenever she needs to. She s also had a cutting lesson and will have more in the future. We use a butter knife and I show her how to curl her non-cutting-hand fingers under a bit and keep her fingers clear of the blade.
