#Tom - s Kitchen: Gratin of Hearty Greens
I'm a greens fanatic: mustards, kale, collards, chard, you name it. I eat them in some form more or less every day, sometimes more than once. At this point, a meal even (or especially) something as simple as a fried egg for breakfast just seems naked, incomplete, without them. Their ubiquity in my daily life can make them seem unexciting for a special feast like Thanksgiving. Really, again, greens made like I always do them, saut ed with onion until tender and then finished with a lashing of vinegar? At the same time, there was no way I could imagine Thanksgiving without leafy greens especially since they reach their peak of flavor in the fall.
So rather than forsake them or serve them the same old way, I decided to dress them up into something richer and more elegant: a gratin. To get ideas on how to pull it off, I dug into James Peterson's excellent 2002 tome Glorious French Food. Along with rec

How to Make a Corner Kitchen Sink Cabinet | eHow
Review styles and shapes of corner sinks before you design the cabinet. Visit home improvement stores and kitchen websites to review the many shapes and materials available for corner sinks. Use your favorite sink's measurements to decide how to lay out the countertop plan. Plan to build the cabinet across the corner with anyone washing dishes facing directly into the 90-degree corner angle. Design the cabinet to have two doors at the bottom.
Use graph paper to draw the surrounding counter space to the left and right of the corner. Create the corner cabinet to be secured to side cabinets or a false wall at a dishwasher or stove. Design and build the cabinet to blend with lower and upper cabinets in style and finish. Revamp the countertop to cover the new corner cabinet and leave room in the countertop to fit the sink and faucets with no visible seams. Use tile to cover the counter around the corner sink, if the sink cabinet i

Kitchen Door Handles - Add Spice to Your Kitchen
By Christopher Wrighton | Submitted On January 24, 2010
Kitchen door handles are functional but can be fun and decorative to. There has been a trend toward improving hardware throughout the house in the home design industry.
Novelty Handles
The handles do not have to be in the standard style, there are plenty of novelty handles available. Novelty ones are often whimsical and fun. They are a great way to decorate or to add some final touches to the kitchen. There are some that are shaped like spoons and forks, to support the idea that this is the spot to eat at in the house. Some are shaped like animals, for that country kitchen charm. There are also handles that are replicas of coke bottles, for those that love everything coke themed. There are plenty of themed kitchen handles, which will enhance any dГ©cor. There are also door handles that are more elegant and serious yet novel. There are some that a

Bring an earthy, old-world feel to your home when you buy Tuscan kitchen decor. Whether you'd like to supplement your Tuscan kitchen design with fruit-filled bowls or add whimsy to your kitchen decor with vineyard-inspired paintings, you're sure to find the Italian kitchen decor that complements your style and gives your home a wonderful rustic touch. Read on for tips on buying Tuscan kitchen decor.
Buying Tuscan Kitchen Decor:
Begin with a statement piece. Tuscan decor is famous for its rich yellow, terra cotta and mossy green shades, so you'll want to look for accessories and decor pieces that incorporate these colors. Buy earthy pottery you can display on a countertop or begin a stoneware plate collection for other Tuscan decorating ideas. #UVe: Clean with the Power of Light by THAT! Kickstarter
In the fight against germs, chemicals are our first and last line of defense. But in many of the places we need them most – like the kitchen or the nursery – they also pose the greatest danger. We rely on cleaning chemicals to keep us safe from dangerous bacteria, but they come with environmental and health risks of their own – risks that most of us accept simply because there isn't a better alternative.
Common detergents and cleaners can release harmful gases, soak into porous wooden surfaces, contaminate local water supplies, and breed superbugs – not to mention leave your hands feeling dry and cracked.
But now, there's another way: UVe. UVe is a self-driving, housekeeping companion that uses UV light to disinfect surfaces while you're away, taking the work off your hands and leaving harsh chemicals out of the equation entirely.
UVe was designed with a simple goal in mind:

#Top 4 complete compact kitchens under $1400
Sometimes I have to smile when I read about tiny kitchens and the pictures show kitchens with even an island, lots of countertop space, 4-burner-stove with big oven and a huge refrigerator. And it reminds me that everything is relative, it’s just the way people look at it. For some their kitchen is tiny and for others it’s really tiny.
The good news is that people prefer more and more often small kitchens. Tiny kitchens are getting more popular in contemporary and modern living spaces.
In this post I refer to the “really” tiny kitchens, the ones that are something between 30 and 60 inches wide. Yes, this is possible and real. These are the sizes of the pre-manufactures compact kitchens you can buy at Amazon. These modular kitchens are usually all-electric and come with sink, countertop, cooktop, refrigerator, freezer and some storage space. Did I miss something?
What’s amazing too is that most of these pre-assem

Martha's New Kitchen | Martha Stewart
Martha Stewart Living, September 2003
It's not often that one has the opportunity to design and build a kitchen from scratch. When I moved to Cantitoe Corners, my farm in Bedford, New York, I was lucky to be able to do just that. I was especially fortunate in that I had a large, raw space to work with (about 750 square feet), nine-foot ceilings, lots of wall space despite more than 10 window and door openings, and no real restrictions as to electrical and plumbing locations. My new kitchen occupies the area where six small rooms and hallways were in the original house. The process, from start to finish, has been complicated, exciting, and even a bit nerve-racking -- there are vast numbers of choices available to the modern homeowner and cook, from styles and colors of flooring, appliances, and work surfaces to those for woodwork, cabinetry, and lighting.
I really wanted an airy and open kitchen, with professional cooking equipme

#Wire Shelving Units in the Kitchen: Simple, Cheap, and (Yes! ) Stylish Organization
If you need extra storage in your kitchen, it doesn't get much simpler than a basic wire shelving unit. You can find tall units for around $60 at Home Depot, and with five or more shelves per unit, that's plenty of space to work with. But if you've always thought they were better suited for storing, say, golf bags out in the garage, then these photos may surprise you. Wire shelves in the kitchen can be both practical and stylish! See a few more examples below:
The key, as with any open shelving, is to keep it neat. Don't cram things onto the shelves. Retain a little breathing room. Create mini tableaus: a hanging row of stainless steel pots; a pretty pastel KitchenAid next to neatly stacked bowls; a row of copper pots with the handles all facing the same direction.
This is a great place to put a few baskets, too, for those items you're not keen on displaying outright.

Kitchen Valance Ideas | eHow
Use this simple solution to create a kitchen valance that can be easily adapted to get the desired result. Secure large cup hooks near both ends of the window frame and insert a wooden dowel into the hooks.
Hang standard S hooks onto the dowel and interchange the items hanging from the S hooks, such as kitchen utensils, wooden spoons, old enamel drinking cups, and even cutting boards or silicone mats. Employ any utensil with a hole in the handle for this space-saving kitchen valance.
If you prefer a touch of whimsy in a room, you may enjoy a kitchen valance made up solely of wooden rice paddles. Oriental food shops are a great place to look for kitchen valance materials. Find the affordable rice paddles with the hole already in the handle, or simply drill a hole to hang and connect the implements.
Try a two-toned look by staining half the rice paddles in a warm, rich color, such as mahogany. Finish all the wooden paddles with a p

Colors That Can Be Used With Hickory Cabinets | eHow
Natural, wood-like tones are easy matches. Tan or cork are midvalue colors (value being the degree of lightness in a color) that provide a warm aura. On the light side, ivory and cream provide a brighter look. For deep tones and a club-like feel, chocolate or saddle brown fill the bill, though you may want to limit these darker shades only to one or two walls; these dark shades may darken the tenor of the room more than you would wish.
Yellow shades are wonderful for a sunny, country kitchen look. Citron or banana are intense yellows, the citron leaning a bit to the green for edge, and banana a middle-of-the-road yellow. If these rich options are too much, lemon sorbet is a less saturated yellow that has enough white to soften the crispness of pure yellow. For a deeper yellow, try egg yolk or goldenrod, darker yellows that provide copious color without the electricity of sharper yellow tones.

kitchen stool | Tumblr
Before and after ombre and masonite kitchen step stool.
We had done another stool like this in all hammered silver paint and a yellow vinyl on both steps so we decided to take a different approach and do an ombre style paint with the bright green fading into the silver and instead of doing a fabric on the steps we used masonite board to give it a more modern industrial feel.
Not Sleeping, Part 2
Love you guys this is the second and (probably) final part! Let me know what you think!
Taylor jolted awake she remembered something, what was it? She searched through her tired brain what had she forgotten? The cats were taken care of for the next few days, the cars had been ordered, she had just talked to her mom and dad last night Taylor mentally went through everything she remembered and was left wanting. What was is? What was she forgetting?
She suddenly sat up in bed quickly and ran downstairs. She checked an

#From Wall Unit to Kitchen Hutch
I know, I know some of you have already seen this because you went to the post featured on The Thinking Closet. but just in case you missed it, I wanted to share again, so here it is. Though I edited some parts out, I wanted to keep my rap in true Thalita form totally geeky. Yes, I said rap.
Now, this is the story all about how
My life got flipped-turned upside down
And I d like to take a minute
Just sit right there
I ll tell you how I got a hutch using a little flair.
How terrible was that on a scale of 1-10, like a 27? I m sorry. I m so not a rapper. But chances are you sang along with the tune in your head, and some of you even kept going with the original lyrics, didn t you? Come on, didn t you? Ok time to get serious! (Just kidding, I never really do that ).

Kitchen Countertop Options - Two Twenty One
We haven t done anything to our kitchen since adding the under cabinet lighting, replacing all of the outdated almond-colored outlets and switches. and having the cabinets refaced last fall. But we ve finally saved up enough to get new kitchen countertops. (We don t believe in spending money we don t have.)
Another reason why we want to knock the countertops out before the nugget arrives is so we can install a new, single basin sink which will be a lot easier for bathing him. Plus, we need a new sink because our current one is stained and gross looking.
So today I m sharing 3 countertop options with you guys to get your opinions.
We re doing laminate countertops. I ve said this a billion times we don t live in a granite countertop house. It would be financially stupid for us to spend money on granite or another stone for this house. Unless you guys want to start a GoFundMe account to pay for granite countertop

New Kitchen Costs - 2015 - Homewyse.com
Do you need an estimate of the cost to complete a typical kitchen in a newly framed home or home addition in your zip code. Do you need a fair, trustworthy and easy-to-understand 2015 estimate of material and labor costs for a new kitchen?
This estimate for a 2015 New Kitchen is derived from the unit cost method summarized in the American Institute of Architects Detailed Cost Estimating - Best Practices. This approach is used by professional designers, contractors, engineers and estimators and uses current wages, material costs, worker productivity benchmarks, supervisory overhead and markup rates. Labor hours include time for basic job planning, setup and site preparation, material handling, fabrication of installed materials, installation and cleanup. Labor costs for the new kitchen are based on United States Bureau of Labor Statistics Industry-Specific Employment and Wage Estimates - and adjusted for fair overhead,

#From the Pros: How to Paint Kitchen Cabinets
Want a major new look for your kitchen or bathroom cabinets on a DIY budget? Don't pick up a paintbrush until you read this
How to paint your kitchen cabinets.
1. Remove the hardware and hinges and clean the surfaces thoroughly. "Paint is a very forgiving material, but the one thing it refuses to abide is a dirty, greasy surface," says Philip Storey of Redhill Painting.
2. Lightly sand the painting surfaces to open the finish surfaces. If there are any dents or grooves in the cabinetry, you may want to fill them in with a good wood filler first. After sanding, use a clean cloth to remove any sanding dust.
4. Finish the cabin
