Things To Consider When Buying Designing Your Kitchen:

Whilst kitchen sinks are a necessity, that doesn t mean you should go out and buy anything just because it s required. Otherwise you may end up with an inferior quality sink from a less than reputable manufacturer which will only cost you more in the long run when you have to replace it. That s why you should buy sensibly and consider all your options first:

Bowl Style: Sinks whilst uniform do come with a variety of different bowl styles. These range from the most common single bowl and 2 bowl installations to in-between variations that include half bowls. These are often referred to as 1.5 bowl and 2.5 bowl sinks make sure you buy to suit your needs.

Construction Material: Kitchen sinks are usually made from one of two main materials; stainless steel or ceramics. Both of which have their own benefits in regards to cleaning, durability and scratch resistance which we ve detailed below; but it ultimately comes down to a matter of preference. Regardless of choice, you can rest assured that all purchases from Plumbworld are quality guaranteed for both stainless steel and ceramic models.

  • Stainless Steel: Without a doubt this is the more contemporary looking option due to the stainless steel finish. The upside of this is that it can coordinate with other stainless steel appliances which are growing ever more common in the kitchen. Cleaning stainless steel doesn t pose a problem and some people believe that the material is less prone to scratching than ceramic. Whilst the finish can eventually dull from staining, this can easily be removed and brought back to its former glory by going over it with steel wool or a dedicated cleaner. Durability isn t a problem and will likely outlast the homeowner. However, if you do to come to sell your house, potential buyers may expect a stainless steel sink as this is the most common option, so that should be considered if you re renting or selling properties.
  • Ceramics: These types of sinks can provide a much more versatile look to the kitchen and in some cases can add a stylish touch; especially where contrasting colours are used. Durability and ease of cleaning are equal to that of stainless steel even though they re more prone to scratching and chips. However, due to ceramics not being as common, there s usually a high price attached to the item.

Belfast: The majority of sinks are considered to be top-mounted which simply sit in holes that have been cut in the countertop with the help of templates. Belfast sinks on the other hand are a specific type of sink that are set into the work surface and are most often found in kitchens that have a traditional feel to them. The upside of a Belfast sink is the depth which is usually considerably larger than that of regular top mounted sink, allowing dishes and various other items to be washed with ease. A Belfast sink provides a much stronger finish than a regular sink because it is installed to sit flush with the units underneath the work surface rather than cutting out a hole and resting on the side of it. But at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference and many people will prefer the contemporary look and feel of a top-mounted sink.

* Ceramic is a likeness to the finish of the sink and not the base material used in production which is actually called Fragranite
