Last year after guessing, for almost 30 years, if the meat was properly cooked I purchased a very basic Sunbeam meat thermometer. Obviously we either didn't eat a lot of meat or ate a lot of badly cooked meat. Despite keeping it in its package, when not in use, the thermometer quit working after only three uses.

I decided to look for something a little more substantial because it's easier to cook meat that tastes and looks much less like shoe leather by using a thermometer rather than guessing. Yes, it took time for me to figure this out. I suspect my family is relieved that I finally did.

I really like the iDevices Mini . I've used it for cooking pork, chicken, and beef and it's a pleasure to cook with. It can also be set-up to use as a timer which does come in handy. While I do wish that it displayed the temperature on the unit, I knew when ordering it that it didn't.

I'm doing fine with the LED rings which change color as the temperature rises. Most of the time I don't pay attention to them because I can count on the app for progress and an alert when the food is done. But they do work as stated.

I have used both the Apple and Android apps. The Apple app is a little better only because the support feature on the app allows you to view the entire manual online. The Android app is supposed to but the link isn't presently working. Still both apps paired with the Mini quickly and allowed me to watch the progress of what I was cooking as well as set alarms, etc.

I think the app demo is good for visual learners. But, if you are a person who does better reading things written out you'll want to download the app and access the manual prior to operation. Read more
