Moen Kitchen Faucet Installation Instructions | eHow Empty the cabinet under the kitchen sink of any items that are stored there. It will be much easier to work if the cabinet is empty. Turn the hot and cold water shut-off valves all the way to the right to shut off the supply of water to the faucet. The shut-off valves should turn by hand, but you may need to use a pair of slip-joint pliers to turn the handles on the valves. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the water supply hoses from the faucet stems and from the shut-off valves. Remove the old water supply hoses. It is always a good idea to change the water supply hoses when a new faucet is installed, unless the hoses are brand new. Remove the faucet nuts under the sink using a basin wrench. A basin wrench is specifically designed to work in the tight space under the sink basin. Remove the old faucet from the sink top. Scrape the sink top with a putty knife to remove any old putty or debris that was under the old faucet. Wipe the sink top with an old rag damp with mineral spirits to clean up anything that remains after scraping. Place the new Moen faucet on the sink top so the faucet stems stick through the holes in the sink top. The Moen has a gasket that allows it to self seal and it requires no plumber's putty. Screw on the faucet nuts to the faucet stems underneath the sink. Tighten the nuts after you check to ensure that the faucet is setting straight on the sink top. Use the basin wrench to tighten the nuts. Wrap the end of the faucet stems with Teflon tape and attach the larger end of the water supply hoses. Tighten the hoses with an adjustable wrench. Attach the other end of the water supply hoses to the shut-off valves after wrapping the threads on the valves with Teflon tape. Ensure that you attach the hot water hose to the hot water stem on the faucet and the cold to cold. Turn on the shut-off valves.
