Very informative video, but the one part I really needed to hear/see was wiring the dimmer control or transformer. The Magnetic Dimmer Driver transformer i have has black and white for high voltage and white and black for low voltage to the lights. I have a wall outlet above the stove for the microwave so I am using a 16 ga, 13 A, 125 V plug to power cord to the transformer. I have a schematic, but it is confusing to me. Measure and Mark the Wall

Measure the height of the base cabinets. Most standard cabinets are 34-1/2 high. Add 1-1/2 for a standard countertop and 18 inches for a standard backsplash, (though some designers now want a 20-inch backsplash to make room for small appliances). With an 18-inch backsplash, the total measurement should be 54 inches from the floor to the bottom of the upper cabinets. If your floor is not level, be sure to measure from the highest point along the wall.

Draw a horizontal line across the wall at this 54-inch point which will serve as a guide for hanging the cabinets. Be sure to use a level to assure this line is true horizontal.

Use a stud finder to locate the wall studs. The wall studs are crucial to properly support the weight of the cabinets. Note: Pay careful attention to the position of all electrical wiring and plumbing.

Without a second thought (taking into account the sink exceptions you noted which functionally require doors). The only exception would be in a kitchen with no additional storage where you could stash really huge pots (pressure canners and ginormous stock pots come to mind). Even then I might do a pullout (essentially big vertically-oriented drawers when you think about it) and have lids and trays in the front with big pots behind. I am having no doors in my new kitchen if can help it.

I have done all my base cabinets drawer.

My sink does not require doors. I have an apron sink and refuse to crawl around on the floor to find something under it. Even with a garbage disposer, I designed a drawer that's lower in the back, taller in the front. I put a drawer front on it and voila! another drawer. Plus, a more functional space for me.

Relocate any appliances. Remove the shoe mold and baseboard carefully from the wall that is being painted. Remove the nails and store it in a safe place for reinstallation later in the day.

Place a drop cloth on the floor next to the wall being painted. Grab the sanding pole and sand the wall from floor to ceiling and side wall to side wall (Image 1).

Need to paint around any windows? If so, use a steady hand or protect window trim with painter's tape (Image 2). Do the same with the wall edges and ceiling intersections. Use a putty knife or 5 in 1 painter's tool to force seal the tape to the surface (Image 3).

Vacuum and clean up any paint dust residue.

Start by cleaning your cabinets thoroughly to remove any dirt and grease. Next, take off the hinges and knobs, and lightly sand the cabinets to remove the gloss for better adhesion (or use a liquid deglosser).

While priming never hurts, whether it’s necessary or not is determined by the type of paint (oil or latex) currently on your cabinets and the type you plan to use for repainting. If you’re changing the type of paint or painting over natural wood cabinets, then it s important to prime the cabinets first.

Set your time you re going to do it. There will never be a perfect time with nothing going on, you ve just got to block it off the calendar and GO! We chose to do it in the spring when my husband could give me 2 full days when he had some time off for spring break.

Number all doors and drawers with numbers and leave a number back where you got them from so there is no confusion and they will hang correctly when you re-attach them.

We spray painted our hinges with brushed nickel spray paint, so my boys put the screws in a piece of styrofoam to get them ready for spray paint.

An organized kitchen follows two basic rules for effective storage: (1) store items close to where they will be used, and (2) keep frequently used items in the most convenient storage areas.

Look around your kitchen. Think about the tasks that you do there and apply the two basic rules.

Cooking: Pots and pans and cooking utensils that you use regularly should be kept close to the range. Pots that you use rarely can go in hard-to-reach corner cabinets, under the often-used pots, or even in the basement.

Eating and clean-up: Everyday plates, cereal bowls, glasses, and silverware should be close to the sink (or dishwasher), and/or close to where you eat, in easy-to reach shelves of upper cabinets. Step 1: Decide on new door inset material

Installing new panels in old cabinet doors can really dress up a kitchen (and new panels are a lot cheaper than new cabinets). Insert materials include glass, translucent plastic, copper, metal, fabric, wicker and many others. Adding “feature” inserts to just one or two of your cabinet doors can be striking and very inexpensive. Our homeowners decided to install perforated metal inserts in all of their upper cabinet doors. They initially wanted to use stainless steel to match their appliances, but went with aluminum after discovering that it costs a third of the price and has a similar look (see “Buying Metal Inserts,” below, for tips on ordering).

Wall tiles are typically thinner and lighter in weight than floor tiles. Many are made with built-in spacer on their edges, also known as lugs (image 2). If your tiles don't have lugs, ask your tile dealer for the proper size plastic spacers. Using spacers between the tiles will help maintain the proper gap and prevent the tiles from slipping downward before the adhesive sets up. The mastic will not adhere to the spacers; they can easily be removed and discarded before the joints are filled or grouted.

The backsplash space between a countertop and wall cabinets usually can be filled with two or three horizontal tile rows, depending on the size of your tiles. Because tiles create a grid-like pattern, try to choose tiles that fit this space wall installations look better when they are vertically even and symmetrical from end to end.
