To make cleaning easier, line your kitchen catcher with newspaper or brown paper bags - don't use plastic or biodegradable/compostable bags as they're not accepted in the organics cart.

About Pet Waste

Pet waste can't go in the organics cart because of its composition, and because most people use plastic to collect it and throw it out. Once our biofuel facility is operating, we’ll be able to accept it without issue.

Diapers can't go in the organics cart because of their plastic shell, even if they're made of biodegradable plastic.

I just saw Nigella Lawson prepare this recipe on TV and had to give it a go. It was just so easy to prepare and the brownies were perfectly 'squishy' in the middle. As Nigella said on her program "a brownie can never be too squishy in the middle". I am preparing a swag of them for Christmas day (any excuse for chocolate). On TV she added a handful of white chocolate buttons to the warm mix just before baking, I did the same for that extra gooey chocolate kick! Brilliant!

Five star brownies! I made these brownies after being inspired by a friend. I watched a youtube vid of Nigella Lawson making these brownies and it was perfect. A couple of games I ve played at kitchen teas are.

1. Split people into groups of 3 or 4 and give each group a toilet roll. One person out of each group has to be the bride and the others have to make and dress the bride in the toilet paper to make a bridal gown, the person with the longest train wins.

2. Everybody clips a peg onto their collar when they arrive and each person has to sit with their legs uncrossed. When you see someone with their legs crossed you can go and steal their peg (its amazing cause you automatically cross your legs when you sit down)in the end you ll h ... Read more »

Panasonic has outed a trio of new VIERA TVs, including one model with an integrated Blu-ray player, and another which can be gesture-controlled. The Panasonic VIERA DMP-BV300, DMP-HV200 and DMP-HV150 each have 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 displays, digital TV tuners and SD/SCHC/SDXC memory card slots, along with integrated ethernet for YouTube and DLNA streaming.

The DMP-BV300 gets the Blu-ray player, with an HDMI port for outputting 1080p HD to an external display. When we began designing our new home (oh so many moons ago) we had written on our wish list for the kitchen 'a blackboard door' and we love how it works for us.

The door is between our Kitchen and our Utility room. It is a sliding 'pocket' door (meaning that it slides neatly into the wall), it is an amazing space saver and makes the room more flexible than if it was a normal opening door.

All it took was a couple of coats of blackboard paint and it brightens up the whole kitchen. yes. despite the fact that it is black.

It changes all the time, depending who is feeling in an artistic mood. Just now it is our 'Kitchen Cafe Menu' and we take turns writing up what we are eating for meals.

The room is a rectangle with tiles on all four walls, one window looking onto the courtyard, a windowed pantry (I know !), and a door to the back staircase hidden behind that shoddy-looking wall to the left of the stove. I like the sillites, but they aren't approved for canada, though they have been approved by inspectors before (according to company), I like flip up ones (mockett brand), they are approved for use in Canada but not recommended for the island because they aren't waterproof. No water on our island so I don't know if that would be an issue. They are expensive though. I like the pull up mockett, but it takes up a lot of room in the cabinet area. I don't even know if I would use them enough to warrant the cost. Anything out there that I havent found that you absolutely love and use.

Q. My metal kitchen cabinets are from the 1950s or earlier. I would like to paint them since I cannot afford to replace them. They are in good shape but they are ugly. Someone told me there is a no prep metal paint that requires no preparation of the surface - just paint it on. If this does not exist is there an adhesive type primer I can use before I paint and not have to strip or sand the cabinets?
