Modular units

Handmade by British Standard  in its Suffolk workshop, this kitchen (below) is composed of a selection of standard-sized, modular units. Full kitchen cabinetry costs from around £7,000, with individual cupboards starting at £400.

Shaker style

Devol’s Real Shaker pantry, H210xW100xD56cm, £2,615,has internal spice racks, a slate shelf and two large drawers.

Tis Shaker-style kitchen by John Lewis of Hungerford  (below) includes freestanding pieces for layout flexibility. The bespoke island, from £1,565, has a Pearl paint finish while the Cool refrigerator unit in gloss Sugar Candy Pink, H161xW79.5xD67.5cm, £2,235, adds a pop of colour.

Butcher's block

Eastburn Country Furniture handmade this robust butcher’s block (H90xW90xD60cm, £795) using reclaimed pine.

Pretty paints

The country-style Harvest range by Creamery Kitchens consists of painted freestanding pieces. A typical kitchen costs from £5,000 (cabinetry only).

Kit Stone’s Neptune Suffolk kitchen, in a Dove Grey painted finish, is configured from a selection of modular units and features a curved island. Full kitchens cost from £10,000 (cabinetry only).

Mix-and-match

This design by The Freestanding Kitchen Company combines handpainted modular wooden base and drawer units with an unpainted freestanding island, larder and wall cabinets for a mix-and-match look. A similar configuration would cost around £5,500.

Storage solutions

With two doors and a large inner shelf, Garden Trading’s Hambledon raw oak sideboard, H90xW140xD50cm, £990, offers ample storage space. The matching plate rack, H66xW71xD28cm, costs £225.

Fired Earth’s East Coast-style Vermont range of solid-oak freestanding kitchen furniture is available in over 20 paint finishes. Complete kitchens cost from around £10,000, excluding appliances.
