Quality Rigid Kitchen Units Delivered to Your Door

Some homeowners complain that their expensive, brand new kitchens start to deteriorate almost immediately after being fitted. It sounds unlikely, but it really does happen. The reason why this happens is because many people are drawn into what they believe to be good offers by kitchen companies without reading the small print. They believe they re getting a good deal, but really they end up paying more for suboptimal materials. Kitchens get a lot of use - they re not only where we prepare and cook breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and supper, where we prepare drinks, but they re also where we wash dishes, do the laundry, dine, and socialise. The kitchen is, perhaps, the most versatile, and therefore most used, room of the entire house. Low quality materials just aren t going to cut it here. With high traffic, you can t purchase low quality materials and expect them to be long lasting. Kitchen cupboards, which are often abused with knives, loaded with heavy appliances, and attacked by active children, need to be rigid, strong, and sturdy. These high quality materials aren t even significantly more expensive than the lower quality options, so there really is no excuse for bad kitchen units!

Which Materials and Styles are Most Rigid?

What a lot of people don t always realise is that the materials and styles of kitchen cabinets don t really affect how strong or sturdy the unit is. Kitchen carcasses are almost exclusively made from chipboard, with wraps and finishes placed on top to create the different looks and styles. As long as you purchase kitchen carcasses from a reputable company that uses thick, high quality chipboard, the structure should last well regardless of the covering. In terms of coverings, they are all very durable, so you ve got plenty of options if you re looking for replacement kitchen units. Some people complain that vinyl and acrylic wraps can start to peel, but this is very rare.If you look at a vinyl or acrylic wrapped kitchen door, you ll see there s no join of the material as it wraps around the door completely. With no join, it s very unlikely that peeling will occur. Some people also complain that solid wood can become chipped. Of course, it can, but solid wood is very strong, and unless you re taking a hammer to the kitchen cupboards on a regular basis, you shouldn t notice any deterioration for many years.

The Importance of High Quality

Some kitchen manufacturers and suppliers use conventional wood or plywood to create their kitchen cabinets, and it s these materials that are going to lead to your kitchen falling apart right in front of your eyes. We only use melamine faced chipboard by the EGGER company which is renowned for producing high quality wooden boards. The reason why we use chipboard over conventional wood or plywood is that it is more dense with closer grains, which naturally reinforces the structure, and it s also more uniform in appearance, so we can be sure our kitchen cupboards look great. A further advantage is that chipboard is actually relatively inexpensive compared to other woods, so we can pass these savings directly onto you. Chipboard has been criticised for being quite porous and absorbent, causing warping when it sucks in moisture, but as EGGER boards are coated in melamine, this isn t an issue.

What s the Right Thickness?

You ll notice that all our kitchen units come in 18mm thicknesses. Typically, 15mm and 18mm are considered normal for kitchen cupboards, although some companies even offer kitchen cupboards that are a mere 12mm thick! However, we know how sturdy kitchen cabinets really need to be, so we only offer the thicker, more rigid 18mm option. Our kitchen carcasses are actually the same thickness as furniture offered by even the most high profile suppliers in the UK. While you could get away with a 15mm thickness, the extra 3mm just give a bit of a buffer, ensuring that your kitchen units stay standing upright no matter what you throw at them. We do not recommend 12mm kitchen cabinets in any way, shape, or form! These cupboards should be for display purposes only, and not for use in a real, working kitchen.

Designed Just for you

Sadly, some people make do with low quality kitchen units because their chosen designs, styles, and sizes are only available with cheaper materials. You don t need to worry about that with us. While we do offer our kitchen cupboards in standard sizes, such as 575mm, 720mm, and 900mm high wall units, we also offer you the opportunity to fit custom-sized kitchen cabinets into your home, made to measure, based on your own requirements and preferences. You can be sure that these items are designed and created exclusively for you, so you know you re not getting a low cost replica from a store display! We even deliver kitchen carcasses to your home fully assembled, fixed together by the best in the field so you can be confident that there s no shoddy workmanship involved, and that your cupboards aren t going to collapse with a small amount of weight - it really is peace of mind for you and your family.

As tempting as it may be to settle for lower quality kitchen units for a bargain price, it s important to recognise that it s not really a deal . If you opt for suboptimal materials and designs, your kitchen will last just half the length of time as a top quality kitchen, if that! Essentially, you will need to buy replacement kitchen units within just a couple of years, which isn t cost effective at all. If you re going to get new kitchen cabinets, then do it right. Don t take our word for it, do your own research, but you ll find that our 18mm EGGER board is one of the best options currently on the market. It s worth paying for quality, and ensuring the longevity of your kitchen cupboards, the safety of your family (you don t want a cupboard falling on anybody!) and the protection of your kitchenware.
