#6 Factors to Consider When Choosing Handles for Your Kitchen Cabinets

When choosing handles it is important to make sure they are good quality and are well designed. Think about how many times you open and close the cabinet doors and drawers in your kitchen. You will want your handles to be as comfortable as they are stylish.

Am sure I've written about this before but since the topic is handles thought I'd contribute here as well.

So right Barbara! Too many choices make choosing handles a chore rather than fun!

I've procrastinated for so long until my dog, yes, dog, chose the drawer handles for me. as in NONE! Nothing so innovative as hidden lips or indentations or press-to-open options. but of necessity, something economical.

Have a much cherished silky oak kitchen dresser with really large handles on the six draws. I also have my second Neo Mastiff assistance dog who, like the first, loves looking in drawers and stealing things ( which he later gives back as presents)..and he can get a grip on most handles. At first it was the tea towel drawer which I let him have after replacing the tea towels with cleaning rags. He then began showing an interest in the other drawers.

My solution was to have 'hand holds' cut into the tops of the other drawers and have purpose crafted decorative flat timber hand hold surrounds made so the dresser drawers still appear. well. in style. This, as well as discouraging firther drawer-opening has been a 'style' of handle that fits my general cabinet decor. ( old 1900s farmhouse). Progresively, all other drawers are becoming. handle-less. As well as being functional and 'theif proof' they also look attractive and can have decoratons surrounding the 'hand holds'.

Might be an idea for an old cabinet refurbish even in a curcumatance minus a drawer contents theif. Simple, economical..different. The inspiration arose whilst purchasing baskets to organise cupboard contents. some baskets have a little hand hold woven into the ends. My version consists of a simple hand width piece cut out of the top of the drawers. top- less. bottom and sides only.
