#How To Fix Wonky Kitchen Cupboards - Bookshelf Boyfriend - Guides To Everything Here’s a simple guide to sorting your wonky kitchen cupboards. All you should need is a Phillips (cross headed) screwdriver. Shown here is the most basic kitchen hinge, so yours might look slightly different, but all have the same adjustable screws. You may have to prise off a cover plate to reveal all the screw heads. If your cupboard doors aren’t in line then the screws you want to adjust are the ones holding the hinge to the side of the cupboard. Loosen all four screws (top and bottom hinge) by a half turn whilst supporting the weight of the door. If the door is too low, simply hold it higher then tighten the screws once more and vice versa. If the door won’t go any higher/lower, try adjusting the opposite door. If your cupboard doors aren’t level then you need to adjust the screw to the front of the hinge. Turning this screw clockwise will move the hinge away from the side of the cupboard, anti-clockwise in towards it. There are adjustment screws on both the top and bottom hinges so you can effectively rotate the door. It’s best to try small adjustments then close the door to assess the effect. By adjusting these screws on both the top and bottom hinge in the same way you can move the doors closer to, or further apart from, each other. If your cupboard doors don’t close properly or don’t sit flat against the carcass (main cupboard body) then you can probably sort it by adjusting the screw to the back of the hinge. To help a door close, support its weight and loosen both top and bottom screws by about half a turn. Move the door out towards you slightly before tightening the screws again. If the hinge side of the door doesn’t sit flat against the carcass, then loosening these screws and pushing the door in before tightening should help. Some problems with cupboard doors can be caused by the installation of the carcass. In these cases, adjusting the doors may not be enough and the cupboard may need reinstalling properly so doors sit level.
