Thank you Laura for putting this together and posting! I have had 6 clients over the last couple years who wanted to remove the uppers and add open shelves. 4 loved them, 1 is dealing with them as best they can, and 1 went crazy. and we installed new uppers. The concept also works great in baths.

This is really the best easy to understand and convey article I have run across on the subject. The look is gorgeous, but can be impractical for many. I often recommend clients who are considering the option remove the doors to their uppers for a week to a month to get a feel for the real life application before making a final decision.
