#Sophie Kitchen Signs NLI - University of Minnesota Official Athletic Site MINNEAPOLIS - Sophie Kitchen has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to golf at the University of Minnesota, head coach Michele Redman announced today. Kitchen will be eligible to compete during the 2013-14 season. A native of Collingwood, Ontario, Kitchen won the Toronto Star Women's Amateur earlier this summer at Barrie Country Club, defeating North Carolina State's Vivian Tsui 2 and 1 in the final round. The incoming freshman also bested Illinois' Laura DeMarco, Missouri's Alina Rogers and Eastern Michigan's Corey Crossan in route to the title. Kitchen also posted top-ten finishes in 2013 at the CN Future Links Prairie Championship (second), the Vertdure Junior Spring Open (tied for second) and the GAO Junior Girls Spring Classic (fourth). A product of Collingwood Collegiate Institute in Ontario, Kitchen has competed for Team Ontario including a roster spot on the Under-19 team and represented the provincial team at the 64th U.S. Girls' Junior Championship at Lake Merced Golf Club in 2012. Prior to taking up golf, Kitchen was nationally ranked alpine skier and twice qualified for Canada's national championship.
