#Kitchen Cabinet Fittings With Universal Design in Mind These ingenious cabinet accessories have a lot on their plate, making accessing dishes, food items and cooking tools easier for allThank you for reporting this comment. Undo BY DESIGN Builders @pursekeys - Your point about stiff drawer hardware is well taken. We only specify Blum hardware and it is not stiff or difficult to pull. Many of the less expensive soft-close drawer hardware lacks the engineering and design, which is why it is less expensive and also more difficult to use. When we attend trade shows we constantly open drawers on display to see if they are using good hardware. Many of the companies touting their wares are not. We pass on those. To retrofit existing bad hardware, one option may be to add the Servo-drive assist system. It fits inside the back of a cabinet and has a small arm that pushes the drawer out when the drawer face is pushed. It is not inexpensive but might be a solution over replacing cabinetry and countertops. (Photo below is of a trash pullout with the Servo-drive in the back) Another thought to retrofitting an existing drawer, is perhaps changing the drawer pull to one that is easier to grasp. We install custom and Poggenpohl (German) cabinetry in our projects. One thing we have not yet seen is a manual touch latch type drawer that also has soft-close. We have told Blum and Poggenpohl that we want this to offer to our clients.
