So one night I got home from dinner, shopping, and a movie with a friend. I said hello to Adam and the boys and moseyed into the kitchen for a delicious glass of water. That s when I saw them, sitting on the countertops the kitchen shelves that I had been  nagging politely asking Adam to build for nearly a year.

My eyes got big and I stared at them excitedly. Then I heard something .it was the shelves, they were speaking to me. They said Ashley! Look how much your husband loves you! He listens when you talk. He would do anything for you. He thinks you look great in baggy old pajamas and drool soaked t-shirts. In fact, he thinks your hotter than Kate Beckensale and Heidi Klum combined. And he s sorry about leaving dirty diapers all over the house and feeding the kids frozen pizza for dinner.

Last week, my sister in-law invited me to their home so I could teach her how to successfully bake a chiffon cake. As she has a KitchenAid mixer, I wanted to show her how easy it was to beat the eggwhites stiff. She bought her mixer early this year but has not done much with it really.

My fabric has directional prints, so as you can see, the design on the main body is upside down on this side. I should have taken the photo from the other side!

This is one of those things I wish I could keep for myself, not only because the cover turned out very pretty, but mainly because of the amount of work I put into it. Fulham s GBK is a pretty par-for-the-course representation of the brand: welcome quirks (such as the tap water and monkey nuts to go), dependable presentation, friendly service and the usual range of comparatively unexciting burgers and rather better milkshakes. With little of the burger competition found in central London however, it manages to be one of the better options in Fulham. Certainly they deserve credit for being more imaginative in their burgers and fillings (ever wanted to try Buffalo meat? You can here) than the nearby Byron. Their partnership with Scottish brewery Harviestoun is promising too,

Kitchen cabinet resurfacing can mean painting or staining cupboards, but it usually refers to adding a new veneer top coat onto them. Veneer is a thin layer of wood that can be affixed to less expensive material. Resurfacing is a low budget way to get a new look, as replacing entire cabinets is expensive. During the resurfacing project, cabinet door hardware may also be refinished or it may be replaced. Changing both the door handles and cupboard surfaces can really create a fresh new kitchen look at a very minimal cost.

Not all kitchen cabinets are suitable for refacing; only sturdy cupboards with a strong structure should be refinished rather than replaced. If the cabinets aren't going to simply be repainted or restained, but rather have veneer glued on, accurate measurements of the front and sides of the cupboards are necessary. These drawers were made as part of a major kitchen re-construction about 6 years ago. Today they are as good as ever so I thought others might like to see the construction details. I don't have many pictures taken from when i made the drawers but those of you into woodworking will get a good idea of what is involved with the construction by looking at the video.

I made a jig to keep everything in alignment when assembling the drawers but seems I didn't take a picture of it. The drawer bottoms are set in rabbits made in the sides of the drawers. As all drawer bottoms are identical they form the main way to align the drawers and keep them the same shape. The video shows how I modified the standard drawer pull to adapt them to the corner drawer. The first piece of furniture we refinished was a 48" 'Napanee' kitchen cabinet.  That was 23 years ago.  Since that day we've been hooked on cabinets.  Our cabinets are stripped by hand inside as well as outside; and we use a hand-rubbed finish, not sprayed or brushed.

We put them back in as good a condition as they were when they where new.  As original as possible with hardware, sifters, sugar jars, spice racks and granites.

The Hoosier Manufacturing Company was founded in 1899 in Albany, Indiana.  A year later the factory burned and they moved to New Castle, Indiana.  At the height of their production years, the Hoosier Co. was making nearly 700 cabinets a day.

Build a shelf that won't sag

Heavy-duty replacement shelf

Don't bother replacing a sagging shelf with another 1/2-in.-thick shelf or it'll end up sagging too. Instead, cut a new shelf from 3/4-in. plywood. Make it the same length and 1-1/2 in. narrower (so you can add rails). Then glue and brad nail (or clamp) 1x2 rails along the front and back of the shelf, flush with the ends. The rails give the shelf additional support so it won't sag, even if you load it up with heavy cookware. Apply a polyurethane (or other) finish to match your other shelves.
