They went to the slaughterhouse, predecessor to today s meat markets, and now megagroceries, to buy meat and casings. They ground and spiced the meat, stuffed sausages and smoked them. Sausages did not originate because people liked their meat in that shape, they originated to utilize the whole animal. Otto s has been turning the whole animal into sausages including smoking them right there for three generations. It grew up in the same location for 80 years come 2016. The star is their large selection of sausage, stuffed and bulk. The ingredients are clearly listed. There is an inside sandwich counter. They prepare to go orders quickly, if you are eating in, it might take a little longer. They also have an outdoor grill, recommended. A line can form for that depending on the weather, day and time. But that is a good opportunity to chat with your neighbors! Inside there are about 8 tables easily seating 4. There is often outdoor seating too. They have other convenience store sodas and beer in their cooler, several beers on tap and a selection of wines. They have chocolate and snack items. I m interested to see how Otto s evolves over the next few years. Like many small businesses they have adjusted and adapted to their customers. Personally I would review the layout and non-meat products and evolve it into a more coherent concept. And in a few years, with Woodstock fully gentrified, they probably will. But now, you can experience a family business, which grew organically, eat in-out, carry out or carry home to cook! I ve been neglecting Woodstock, but no longer! And Otto s is a good start!
